Toxic Sludge In Europe

Recommended Posts

I have to admit I've been following this for the past few days, the thing that totally baffles me is how on earth Hungary was allowed to have a huge lake of un treated toxic sludge.....

This would not be allowed in most developed countries and certaintly not the UK.

I would have thought as well that EU law would have some minimal Enviromental standards that companies should meet and if not they could be fined.

Another aspect might also be that if these east european countries are part of the same EU trading block, but don't for whatever reason have to comply with EU law or the same enviroment aspects as the other western european countries then this gives them a very large cost advantage which surely isn't fair either.

This whole affair really annoys me on so many levels tbh...

Not to mention the deaths and damage it's caused.
