If anyone ventures to 40D (channel 4's online tv base) you can watch Britain the Great freeze back in the hight of the cold this January. Makes for interesting watching. Get's me right in the mood :)

1947 had far more frequent and heavy falls of snow than 62/63. The thing about 62/63 was the depth and length of the cold, snow that fell lasted for weeks and weeks on end.

Yep 1947 was top of the list it`s not a winter I`d want to see only for the severe freezing rain event destroying trees branches the weight of the ice was unbearable as I keep hearing about, then floods followed

That is most probably the prettiest and most wintryest picture I have seen from the Uk. Just proves how different and diverse our climate is in this state of countries. I have seen depth of snow like that around here although not to the extreme with the icicles etc. Absolutely beautiful.. Thank you :)

Been looking at some photos from last Winter to whet the appetite for this year.

The waterfall in the attached froze up last December.

America gets the best falls.... :p:angry:

If we're talking about snow in America, how about this freak storm?

The fantastic picture of Tomintoul last winter set me reading through last years farm diary when on the 1st of January I wrote that we had 20inches of level snowfall in the previous 12days a real Christmas card scene. Presently getting a lot of outside jobs done earlier than usual in this fine spell of weather in case it turns cold suddenly. Still think that with a very quiet sun and lack of Aurora we will see another cool or cold winter

I'm a born and bred Invernessian but my family are all from other parts of the Highlands besides Inverness: Dalwhinnie (very snowy), Wester Ross, Croftnacreich, Garve. I've worked in Aviemore for a couple of years, fairly often go ski-ing in the Cairngorms and so on :)

A labhair tu Gaildhig?

Instead of saying we "speak" Gaidhlig, we say that we "have Gaelic" - so it's "a bheil Gaidhlig agat?" (a-vil gah-lick ah-kut?)

The answer? Chan eil Gaidhlig gle mhath agam - Ged tha beagan agam, ceart gu leor - tha mi a Gaidhealtachd.

I don't have brilliant Gaelic, but of course being from the Highlands I have some. :good:

Ydych chi'n siarad Cymraeg? Dyw un iaith byth yn ddigon! :D

Some snow photos taken in South Wales last winter.

Don’t let the amount of snow, or the fact the photos are labelled Avoriaz France March 2009 fool you.

Ahahahaha. Very nice!

I LOVE the snow, i'm hoping for a first white Christmas this year for my baby boy. I have a painting of a snowy scene on my bedroom wall all year round as I think it's so magical. The only time I'm not a fan of snow is when it turns to black sludge, yuk, then it all starts looking a bit sad and dirty. Some people find winter depressing but I love Autumn and Winter, the dark evenings just make me feel cosy and i'd much rather be a bit chilly and wrap up warm than be swelteringly hot and unable to sleep.

I agree with EVERYTHING in this statement. Hope your baby boy has an amazing christmas regardless of the weather, but of course snow would be a nice supplement. good.gif

Me too. Although a hard frost is great too… means I can go out for walks without getting covered in mud and the cold ups your walking pace — good for keeping fit — if it's rainy and mild I just stay inside.
