Imo it is going to be a colder than average October. The Jet Stream appears to be weaker than it has for some time and El Nino is lingering in the South Pacific. A sharp Northerley could provide us with some interesting minima and this is certainly possible. I am going to go for.......8.5c

Looks like a disturbed start to the month with temps slightly above average largely due to mild nightime minima which could be theme of the first half. I do expect a colder interlude at some stage probably thanks to a northerly airstream and then for more traditional wet and windy average conditions to finish the month off but quite cold in the north.

My projection is 11 degrees, so another very near average month. It will be a very traditional autumnal month unlike some recent Octobers such as last year and 2005, 2006 which saw unusual warmth at times and lots of high pressure. The atlantic looks like it is finally stirring into gear.
