I'm expecting the first half of the month to be fairly unsettled in the North/Northwest and rather cool, with more settled and at times warm periods in central and southern areas. I wouldn't be surprised to see the CET by mid-month a good degree or two above average.

The second half of the month looks quite likely to be unsetted for most areas in my opinion; all areas seeing windy or even stormy periods for a time.

However I think the north may well see colder conditions towards to end of the month, with southern areas seeing colder conditions at times also.

Overall my guess is at 11.5C

11.8, expect a very mild spell after the 20th to hold up the values.

Sounds like you expect an October similar to that of last year which had a very pleasent final week. I'm not going to make my estimate until next week as I'm really not sure at the mo.

10.9c so a little milder than average. Nothing special - much like October itself bar the fact I turn another year older!

Quite unusual to see a very mild spell at the end of October, it can often be mild under stormy south westerlies but rarely very mild.

Out of interest I am off to the west coast of Canada and the Rockies between 3-21 Oct. Any predictions for likely colder or warmer than normal conditions or wetter or sunnier than normal?

Pack your rain gear, the autumn rains have already started, quite a bit earlier than many previous years around here. We are on pace to record our wettest September ever (some recent years have stayed almost dry throughout but not this year). I see this pattern locking in for several months now and you may see some unseasonably cool days when in the Rockies with some early snowfalls likely there (but the snow line near the coast rarely drops below 1200m in October).

Here are the October Averages:

1961-1990 CET Average - 10.6°C

1971-2000 CET Average - 10.4°C

Is it odd that October's in the more recent 30 years have been cooler than the 61-90 average? Why is that?

My guess is an average, if not slightly below average month. 10.2c.

I'm thinking a pretty variable month, very similar to September actually, with high pressure and low pressure alternating. Sometimes quite warm, sometimes quite cold, but nothing out of the ordinary.

CET - 11.0

I think overall October will be wet and at times a very windy month paticulary around the start and end of the month with temperatures near to average in the South and slightly below average in the North paticulary later in the month with Scotland perhaps seeing some patchy low level snow during any northerlys. I would go currently for at a total guess 10.2c perhaps :) slightly lower than this if there is a widespread cold spell. :whistling:
