Tuesday 21 Apr - Thursday 30 Apr

Remaining mostly dry on Tuesday with sunny spells for many parts of the UK. Cloudier in southwest with a risk of heavy rain or showers, perhaps accompanied by thunder at times. Breezy with temperatures around average, although warmer in parts of the west and colder along eastern coasts. Towards the end of April, settled conditions are likely to build across much of the UK with a good deal of sunshine and dry weather, as well as some overnight frost. Showers or some longer spells of rain are possible in southern parts of England at times, perhaps heavy and thundery at times. Temperatures generally on the warm side in the south but cooler in the north and around coasts.

Friday 1 May - Friday 15 May

During the start of May, many parts are expected to see a continuation of settled weather with the driest conditions across the north of the UK. Any showers or longer spells of rain are likely to be confined to southern areas of England and parts of Wales. Towards the middle of May, a shift towards more unsettled conditions across much of the UK is expected, though confidence is low at this time. Temperatures are likely to recover to around normal in the north, with the rest of the UK remaining rather above average.

Wednesday 22 Apr - Friday 1 May

It is expected to be largely fine and dry with plenty of sunshine to start this period, with any risk of showery conditions confined to the south of England. When, at times, unsettled conditions reach the south, it may also carry a risk of thunder and lightning. Temperatures are expected to be rather warm for most, but perhaps cool along eastern coastlines. As we move further into Spring, temperatures will tend towards average for the time of year, with any overnight frosts isolated to sheltered northern regions. The largely sunny, settled conditions with light winds are expected to continue until the end of April, when showery, unsettled conditions may become more widespread and extend further north.

Saturday 2 May - Saturday 16 May

Although confidence is low for this period, it is likely that unsettled, showery conditions that were confined to the south, will extend further north and become somewhat widespread. It's possible that towards the middle of May we will see a return to settled conditions with dry and bright weather. Temperatures overall near or above average.

The wording in these outlooks is terrible. As we move further into spring temps will tend towards average, when exactly.. this follows on from describing largely settled fine weather start the period which is 25 April to roughly perhaps 28 April and then these continue until end of April, exceptional short timeframes being discussed here, separately. All very very confusing. These forecasts haven't changed much over recent days - I feel the met office is really really struggling at the moment, lack of data, lack of human resources.

Never read such a poor forecast with no conviction at all.

Sunday 26 Apr - Tuesday 5 May

Fog to start for some on Sunday, but this soon clearing to leave a cloudy day in the north with patchy rain and showers for parts of the west. Dry with sunny spells elsewhere. Through next week confidence becomes low but it looks to be generally more unsettled. There will still be periods of fine and dry weather with sunshine but with a greater chance of showers or at times some longer spells of rain developing, especially in the south at first. Following this into early May there is a chance of seeing more organised bands of rain arriving into the west with showers, perhaps heavy and blustery, in the north. Temperatures above average to start but becoming a little cooler with the chance of overnight frosts in the north.

Wednesday 6 May - Wednesday 20 May

Although confidence is low for this period, it is likely that unsettled, showery conditions will reach much of the country for a time before towards the middle of May we will see a return to drier and brighter weather. Temperatures overall near normal or slightly above.

Thursday 30 Apr - Saturday 9 May

Thursday is likely see a continuation of unsettled weather with a risk of strong wind in places. Showers will potentially be more focused to the west, with more prolonged and heavy periods of rainfall at times. Bright or sunny spells elsewhere. Moving into May, the more unsettled theme is likely to continue as Atlantic weather systems bring bands of rain across many areas. There will probably still be some bright spells interspersed by showers between these frontal systems. It is likely to be windy at times, particularly around coasts in the south and west. Temperatures remaining around average, but with the potential for some warm days in the east. Signs that more settled conditions may return to end this period, but confidence is low.

Sunday 10 May - Sunday 24 May

Confidence remains low, but the second week of May appears to have the best chance of more settled and drier conditions. From mid-month until the end of May, conditions look mixed. There is likely to be a mixture of changeable periods of a few days with the chance of thundery showers, but also some periods of drier and sunnier weather. Temperatures are likely to be near the climatological average, or maybe slightly above, with rainfall around average as well.

Friday 1 May - Sunday 10 May

Looking slightly ahead into the beginning of May, the unsettled theme is likely to continue as Atlantic weather systems bring further bands of rain across to many areas, particularly in the south and the west of the UK. Although the southwest is most likely to see the wettest of these conditions, there should still be some brighter and showery spells in between these frontal systems. It is expected to be windy at times, especially around the south and west coasts. Temperatures should remain around average, but with the potential for some warmer days in the east. Towards the end of this period, although confidence is low, there are some signs that more settled conditions may return.

Wednesday 6 May - Friday 15 May

The beginning of this period will be largely dry with light to moderate winds, and temperatures near average or slightly above, allowing pleasant sunny and bright spells for most. Rain most likely in western areas. The weather will likely turn more unsettled, with a gradual increase in spells of rain and showers for most, broken by brief sunny or bright spells. Winds may turn fresh or strong in some western regions with cooler temperatures in the north spreading throughout the UK. Although the heaviest rainfall will be in southern regions, the unsettled picture is set to continue until mid-month where there is a chance we could see some longer drier spells. However, this is more likely later in May - beyond this period.

Saturday 16 May - Saturday 30 May

Generally a largely unsettled picture is set to continue, with periods of rain and showers broken by some brighter spells whilst staying on the cooler side. The heaviest rain is expected in the south. Towards the end of May, there is an increasing chance of longer, drier spells, with temperatures also turning warmer.

A pretty mediocre looking May if this forecast comes off.  However, all subject to change of course.

Hints of a pattern shift setting up a warm and dry June perhaps?  Would be in line with their latest contingency forecast.

Sunday 10 May - Tuesday 19 May

The beginning of this period should be largely dry with cloudier skies and some patchy light rain here and there. A few longer spells of rain are possible across southern parts accompanied by strenghtening winds and a risk of gales along coasts. Drier and brighter conditions should develop across the country through the middle of the period, interspersed with sunny spells. However, parts of northern Scotland and southern England. may see periods of thicker cloud with spells of rain and strong winds at times throughout the forecast period. Feeling cold for most with a chance of frost overnight in rural spots. Some warmer weather may creep into the far south towards the end of the period.

Wednesday 20 May - Wednesday 3 Jun

After a largely dry and bright start to the period, more unsettled conditions are likely to arrive from the southwest towards the end of May. This will bring spells of rain or showers at times across southern and western areas. Eastern and southeastern areas are likely to see the best of any drier and brighter weather. After a cold start temperatures should recover to around normal towards the end of the period and it may feel warm at times.

Tuesday 12 May - Thursday 21 May

During the beginning of this period high pressure will dominate with most places seeing largely fine and dry conditions, with variable cloud and sunny spells. However, the far north and far south could see some thicker cloud with more organised rain at times, as well as strengthening winds and a risk of gales along coasts. Elsewhere winds will remain light. Temperatures below average with some overnight frosts across rural areas in the north but still feeling warm in sunshine. Through the middle and towards the end of the period, high pressure will continue to dominate bringing more of the fine weather and light winds across the UK. Temperatures should gradually return back to around average.

Friday 22 May - Friday 5 Jun

After a largely dry and bright start to the period, more unsettled conditions are likely to arrive from the southwest towards the end of May. This will bring spells of rain or showers at times across southern and western areas. Eastern and southeastern areas are likely to see the best of any drier and brighter weather. Wednesday 13 May - Friday 22 May

To start the period, high pressure will dominate with most places seeing largely fine and dry conditions, with variable cloud and sunny spells. There could be a chance of rain and showers from the south at times, as well as in the far northwest. Light winds across most areas, however, the far northwest and south could turn windier at times with a risk of gales along coasts. Through the middle and towards the end of the period, high pressure will continue to dominate bringing more of the fine weather and light winds across the UK, especially in the east. Temperatures will continue to recover, but still feeling cold for most with a chance of frost overnight in rural spots. Could warm up in places towards the end of the period.

Saturday 23 May - Saturday 6 Jun

After a largely dry and bright start to the period, particularly in the east. More unsettled conditions are likely to arrive in the south from northward extending showers. There will also be outbreaks of rain and showers across the west and northwest from the weak Atlantic mobility. Winds remaining light through most of the period. Temperatures should be rather warm for most, although there could still be the odd chilly night with some frosts.

Trying to decipher what synoptics would deliver such conditions. Suggests a SW airstream setting up with the jet aligned on a SW-NE axis to our NW, and a slight southerly draw into south with heat building to cause shower development.

Frontal activity not making much inroads into England and Wales, only brushing far NW regions, with most rain reserved for NW corner.
