No update yet this morning so could this be a sign of some hesitation over how next weeks heat pans out or not??

Short term text forecasts updated at 02:31 this morning the longer range ones update around lunchtime

This was yesterdays update

UK Outlook for Monday 29 Jun 2015 to Wednesday 8 Jul 2015:

Largely dry with bright spells on Monday, though some showers are possible, especially over northern parts. A band of cloud and rain, heavy at times, is then expected to push slowly eastwards across the UK midweek. Ahead of this eastern, central and southeastern parts turn warmer and more humid, southeastern parts seeing the warmest weather. Drier, brighter and fresher conditions with nearer normal temperatures then spread eastwards over the UK later next week. For the remainder of the period a northwest-southeast split is likely leaving southern and eastern parts often fine and dry whilst further north and west occasional rain is likely, though some fine weather is likely at times too. Temperatures then often near or just above average and perhaps warmer at times to the southeast.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 30 Jun 2015 to Thursday 9 Jul 2015:

Fine and dry for most parts on Tuesday and Wednesday, with some light rain in the northwest, but becoming hotter and more humid in the south, where southeastern parts are most likely to see the hottest temperatures. By Friday, rain is expected to push east across the UK, with some heavier outbreaks possible. Drier, brighter conditions follow the rain later next week and into the weekend, with temperatures cooling off a little. Fine and dry conditions, with isolated spells of rain should then develop across the south and east through the remainder of the period, with northern and western areas seeing a mixture of occasional rain and sunny periods. Temperatures are likely to be around average, but just above average in the southeast.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 1 Jul 2015 to Friday 10 Jul 2015:

Quite sunny for most on Wednesday and Thursday with an increasing risk of thundery showers although the west may become cloudier with some rain. Very warm for many for a time, with hot or very hot conditions probably developing in some central and especially southeastern areas, although there is uncertainty in the northward and westward extent of these potentially very hot conditions. Friday onwards heralds a gradual transition to slightly cooler conditions, with some spells of thundery rain spreading eastwards followed by brighter and fresher weather with sunny spells. Into the following week the south and southeast should see the best of the warmer drier conditions, with northern and western areas seeing some rain at times. Temperatures are likely to remain above average, perhaps turning hot again in the south

UK Outlook for Friday 3 Jul 2015 to Sunday 12 Jul 2015:

A warm but less humid day for many on Friday, though isolated thunderstorms are still possible across the south and east, and with a fragmenting band of thundery rain spreading eastwards later in the day. Hot and humid conditions will return from the south on Saturday. Sunday sees another band of thundery rain spreading east across all parts, and then into the following week it looks as though the west and northwest will see more spells of unsettled weather with occasional rain or showers, with the east and southeast being much warmer and drier, albeit with a small risk of isolated thunderstorms. Temperatures look likely to remain generally above average, perhaps very warm again in the southeast.

UK Outlook for Monday 13 Jul 2015 to Monday 27 Jul 2015:

It looks as though the north and northwest is likely to see spells of more unsettled weather through most, if not all of the period, but even here the bouts of rain may well be less frequent than normal with some good periods of dry weather. Further south and southeast it will be warmer with often dry and fine conditions, however with the warmer temperatures there is a low risk of occasional thundery outbreaks. Temperatures are likely to be near or a little above average in the northwest, but in the southeast it will be very warm and possibly hot at times.

Another pulse of warm humid air looks possible next week

UK Outlook for Saturday 4 Jul 2015 to Monday 13 Jul 2015:

After another warm, humid start on Saturday, especially over eastern parts where there could be some thundery showers, some fresher, cooler conditions are expected to push in from the west, reaching all parts by the end of the day. Largely dry and bright and feeling cooler on Sunday. A chance of some rain spreading into the west and southwestern parts early next week, but most places, away from the northwest, look to stay mainly dry for much of the week with a return of the very warm, humid conditions and a low risk of thundery showers into the south towards midweek. By the middle of July northwestern parts are likely to see more in the way of unsettled weather, whilst southeastern parts seeing further fine, dry and very warm conditions.

UK Outlook for Thursday 9 Jul 2015 to Saturday 18 Jul 2015:

Bright and breezy on Thursday with a mixture of showers and sunny spells, together with a brisk northerly breeze. Less windy on Friday with a mixture of broken cloud and a few showers across much of the UK, although the southwest may turn cloudier with a little drizzle at times. After this, a fairly quiet period of weather is likely to develop through next weekend and into the following week, with mostly dry conditions across southern parts but some rain at times in the north. Temperatures during this period will tend to drop a little below normal to start with, this feeling much cooler than of late for many places, before slowly rising later, perhaps becoming warm in the southeast.

UK Outlook for Sunday 19 Jul 2015 to Sunday 2 Aug 2015:

Many southern and central parts of the UK are likely to be mostly dry, often with fine, warm conditions. Towards the north and northwest there will be some cloudier conditions with rain at times, although even here some periods of dry weather are expected. Temperatures are likely to be around average in the north, but in the south there may be spells of very warm weather for the time of year. These hot conditions bring a low risk of occasional thundery outbreaks, mainly for the southeast.

UK Outlook for Thursday 16 Jul 2015 to Saturday 25 Jul 2015:

On Thursday, northern parts will see a largely fine and dry start, with a higher chance of thicker cloud and outbreaks of rain this spreading north across western and northwestern parts. Through Friday, rain is likely will push northeastwards across the UK, with cooler, breezier conditions following on into western parts later. During the weekend, this cool and breezy weather is expected to bring showers to almost all parts, these heavy at times across northern areas. Through next week showers will tend to ease, with a good deal of fine and dry weather possible, especially across the south. Temperatures near or below average for most areas, becoming warm at times across the southeast, perhaps becoming very warm here by the end of the period.

UK Outlook for Sunday 26 Jul 2015 to Sunday 9 Aug 2015:

A good deal of fine, dry weather looks likely towards the end of the month, particularly across southern parts. Occasional spells of more changeable weather are possible, especially for north or northwestern areas, where showers or outbreaks of rain and stronger winds are more likely, but these should generally be quite short-lived in nature. Temperatures are likely to be fairly below average across the north at times, but temperatures in the south and southeast will often feel warm, with the small chance of some hotter spells at times.

First half of August is still looking good well over due as well!

UK Outlook for Wednesday 29 Jul 2015 to Wednesday 12 Aug 2015:

As we head into the first half of August we will probably see an increasing amount of fine and dry weather across the UK giving below average rainfall overall, more especially across southern parts. There is still a risk of some short-lived spells of more unsettled weather at times though, most likely for northern and northwestern parts of the UK, where showers or longer spells of rain are possible, along with stronger winds. Temperatures are generally expected to be around average for the time of year. Northern areas may be slightly below average due to the more unsettled conditions, whilst temperatures in the south and more especially the southeast will often feel warm, with the small chance of some short lived hotter spells.

One week on and the met office remain confident in high pressure building

UK Outlook for Wednesday 5 Aug 2015 to Wednesday 19 Aug 2015:

We are expecting to see increasing amounts of fine, dry weather across most parts of the UK as high pressure will generally build through the first week of August. Occasional spells of more unsettled weather are still possible, particularly across northern and western areas, but these are expected to be infrequent and short lived. As a result many parts of the UK will see below average rainfall overall. Temperatures will probably be near, or just below average for the most part, though we should see a gradual rise through the period. There is a chance that very warm or hot conditions may return into southeastern parts at times, which would give a low risk of thundery outbreaks from the continent.

UK Outlook for Thursday 6 Aug 2015 to Saturday 15 Aug 2015:

Unsettled and often wet conditions are expected to persist in the north on Thursday with southeastern parts having the greatest chance of staying dry with some sunshine, although there is a risk of some thundery showers here later in the day. Generally drier and brighter on Friday, particularly in the southeast. Conditions will then remain generally unsettled with bands of rain, accompanied by strong winds, pushing in from the west at times. These will be interspersed with more showery conditions with the southeast seeing the best of any drier weather. Temperatures are likely to range from rather cool in the north and west to nearer normal in the south and east, although some transient warm spells are possible in the southeast at times

UK Outlook for Sunday 16 Aug 2015 to Sunday 30 Aug 2015:

The unsettled theme is likely to continue for much of the UK to the end of August with wet and windy conditions at times, particularly in the north and west of the UK. Southern and eastern parts will continue to see the best of any drier and brighter spells, although there is still a risk of rain or showers here at times. There is a weak signal for some periods of drier and more settled weather to develop towards the end of the month, however confidence in this is currently low. Temperatures on the whole will be near or below average for the time of year, especially in the north, although during any more settled spells of weather it could turn warmer at times in the southeast.

Friday and Saturday are likely to be unsettled, with showers or longer spells, of rain. The rain being most persistent in the north and west, where it will be windy at times. The southeast could stay largely dry although there is the risk of some thundery showers here. Through the rest of the period, westerly or south-westerly winds will push bands of rain or showers across the country at times, interspersed by some drier and brighter interludes. The wettest and windiest weather occurring in the north and west, with the south seeing the best of the brighter weather. Temperatures will range from rather cool in the northwest, to near normal in the east, although there is the chance of some very warm interludes in the southeast.

UK Outlook for Thursday 13 Aug 2015 to Saturday 22 Aug 2015:

Predominantly fine and warm, although it is expected to be generally cool and cloudy with outbreaks of rain and showers at times towards the north and west of Scotland. Towards the south and east of England, it is expected to become very warm, with increasing humidity from the continent bringing the threat of outbreaks of heavy rain, perhaps turning thundery at times. It is likely that the weekend will see a rather cool and changeable regime becoming established across the northwestern half of the United Kingdom, making for some wet and breezy weather here at times. For the southeastern half of the country, a few showers at times, but on the whole predominantly warm and fair, with temperatures rather above average

UK Outlook for Sunday 23 Aug 2015 to Sunday 6 Sep 2015:

The most likely scenario is largely warm and settled weather across the southern half of the United Kingdom, but there remains a small risk of isolated thunderstorms spreading from the near continent into southern England at times. Further north, it is more likely to be cooler and breezier with spells of rain, particularly across western Scotland. Temperatures are expected to be generally near average, but slightly below normal in the far northwest, and rather above normal in the far southeast.

UK Outlook for Thursday 27 Aug 2015 to Saturday 5 Sep 2015:

Further spells of rain are likely to spread across all parts of the UK, interspersed with drier conditions although showers are possible at times. Scotland, western England and Northern Ireland could see occasional outbreaks of heavy rain along with strong winds, and even a chance of gales around exposed coasts. Eastern parts in contrast should be broadly drier, but patchy light rain may make it across from the west at times. Towards the end of August and start of September conditions should become less unsettled across the country, with driest weather most likely in the southeast. Temperatures throughout the period are expected to remain near normal for most, perhaps becoming very warm at times in the southeast, especially around the end of August.

UK Outlook for Sunday 6 Sep 2015 to Sunday 20 Sep 2015:

The more settled conditions should continue across much of the country for the first few days, although cooler and showery weather could push into the far northwest at times, with occasional periods of stronger winds. As the month progresses it is likely that settled conditions are expected to break down, heralding the possible return of showers or longer periods of rain. The southeast is least likely to see any heavy rain, with longer drier spells likely here. Generally warm at first, especially in the southeast. It may well turn cooler as we go towards mid September, especially with the possible return of wetter and windier weather.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 15 Sep 2015 to Thursday 24 Sep 2015:

Remaining unsettled, with showers or spells of rain for many places, these perhaps turning heavy and prolonged through Tuesday. This may potentially be accompanied by very windy weather, most likely towards the south and west. It will feel cool, particularly in the wind and rain, though south-eastern parts may see warmer temperatures developing on Wednesday. Beyond this, conditions will remain rather changeable, with showers or longer periods of rain affecting much of the UK and the best of any drier, brighter spells favouring sheltered eastern parts. By the weekend, some drier interludes are possible towards the southeast, whilst periods of rain and strong winds continue further west. Temperatures range from rather cool in the northwest to near normal in the southeast, where there may be some warmer days at times. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/forecast

UK Outlook for Friday 25 Sep 2015 to Friday 9 Oct 2015:

There may be more in the way of longer drier, brighter spells of weather through the end of September, though conditions are likely to remain fairly changeable across the UK, with showers or longer spells of rain also expected at times. Thereafter, it is possible that we may see more of a northwest to southeast split develop, with the best of the drier, brighter conditions favouring southeastern parts. UK Outlook for Friday 25 Sep 2015 to Sunday 4 Oct 2015:

Conditions are expected to settle down through Friday for the majority of the UK with any showers becoming confined to northern Scotland leaving plenty of dry and fine weather for many. Further wind and rain may affect northwestern areas later in the weekend, perhaps extending to other parts. However, settled and dry conditions are more likely to prevail through much of the next week particularly for southern areas, but perhaps with occasional bouts of rain and windier conditions over northern parts at times. There will be an increasing risk of fog patches developing overnight, which could be slow to clear during the mornings. Temperatures are likely to be near normal for most part, perhaps warm at times. However, some chilly nights are possible with a risk of local frosts.
