Monday 10 May - Wednesday 19 May

Remaining unsettled into the new week and for the rest of this period. To start, spells of locally heavy rain across the far northwest, while all other areas see a mixture of sunshine and scattered showers on Monday. Downpours can possibly be quite heavy, with risks of hail and thunderstorms in the west. Winds fresh to strong across much of the UK, with potential for gales at first in the north and west, becoming confined to the northwest later. Temperatures nearer average to rather warm, bar the far north which is likely to still feel rather cold, to begin the week. A return to near to below-average temperatures thereafter with the ongoing unsettled weather of mixed showers or longer spells of rain and strong winds.

Wednesday 19 May - Wednesday 2 Jun

Confidence is low for this outlook, with weakening signals from global weather drivers. A mixture of sunny spells and showers is likely, especially at first, with areas in the south experiencing the most settled and dry conditions through this period. Towards the north and northwest there is an increased chance of unsettled weather as longer spells of rain and strong winds arrive from the Atlantic at times. Temperatures likely to be around average.

These updates still suggest a very poor May for the north at least, making up for the very dry April.. would much rather it had been the other way round.. dry weather came too early yet again!..

Tuesday 11 May - Thursday 20 May

A mixture of sunny spells and scattered showers are likely on Tuesday, with some of the showers being locally heavy and possibly thundery. The most frequent downpours will be in the north and west, and a more organised band of rain may approach from the southwest later in the day. Southern parts of the country could well receive rain on Wednesday and Thursday, while conditions further north could be clearer but showery. The unsettled theme continues through the remainder of this period, with longer spells of rain and showers in between. It's likely to be breezy at times; especially around coastal areas, where gales may occur. Temperatures will be near to or slightly below average, though overnight frosts becoming unlikely.

Friday 14 May - Sunday 23 May

Many places cloudy to start with showers or outbreaks of rain on Friday and winds mostly light. These showers especially prevalent in the south, whilst tending to die away in the north through the day with the best of any sunshine here. Rather cloudy or misty along some North Sea coast in the north. Temperatures still a little below average for most, especially in the cloudier south. The unsettled theme then continues through the remainder of this period, with longer spells of rain and showers in between, the clearest conditions are most likely in the north. It's likely to be breezy at times; especially around coastal areas, where gales may occur. Saturday 15 May - Monday 24 May

Most likely remaining unsettled throughout the period, with Saturday seeing sunshine and showers. Accompanying this will be some breezy winds in the far north, with a period of more prolonged, organised, rain affecting both there and the far south. Temperatures still a little below average for most, especially in the cloudier south. The north will perhaps be becoming more settled for a time, with the south most likely to see any longer spells of persistent rain. It's likely to be breezy at times, especially around coastal areas, where gales may occur. Temperatures will be near to or slightly below average, with the best of any warmer spells in the southeast, and with the formation of overnight frosts becoming less likely.

Sunday 23 May - Sunday 6 Jun

Confidence remains low for this period, although typical spring weather patterns are most probable, with a mixture of sunny spells and showers for most parts of the UK, especially at first. Overall, the driest and most settled conditions are most probable in the south, with the north generally more unsettled as longer spells of rain and strong winds arrive from the Atlantic at times. Temperatures likely to be around average.

Tuesday 18 May - Thursday 27 May

Continuing unsettled and rather cool with showers developing on most days. Each day the showers are likely to be locally heavy with the risk of thunder, perhaps parts of the south most prone to these on Monday. It's likely to be breezy at times too, especially around coastal areas in the west. Temperatures look to remain rather below average across the country, although in any sunshine and lighter winds it will feel quite pleasant. Where winds fall light and skies clear it is still possible we could see some overnight frost in sheltered, prone locations. Perhaps beginning to turn rather more settled toward the end of the period, but this very uncertain at this stage.

Thursday 27 May - Thursday 10 Jun

Confidence is low for this outlook as is typical of late spring and early summer. However perhaps a trend to rather more settled conditions as we move into early June with more in the way of dry weather and sunshine. With this we are likely to see a recovery in temperature too, although at this stage there is no strong signal for any very warm weather.

Wednesday 19 May - Friday 28 May

Unsettled conditions continuing, with scattered showers again developing across most areas. To start the period, these may be heavy, and at times wintry in the far north, especially over hills. Further into this period, it is likely to remain changeable with a mixture of sunshine and scattered showers, though heavy in places with a risk of thunder. Brief spells of more organised cloud, bringing rain and strong winds, remain possible, particularly in the south. Generally staying breezy throughout. While temperatures by night are likely to below average, frost is expected to be restricted to prone locations, especially where winds fall light. By day, temperatures are likely to be around or slightly below average, notably cool in the South but cold in the North.

Friday 28 May - Friday 11 Jun

Confidence is low for this period, typical of Spring and early Summer. It is likely for conditions to remain changeable with showers at first, but probably becoming more settled with an increasing likelihood of drier conditions for many places. Temperatures possibly recovering to nearer average but with more settled conditions bringing some warmer days, and some cooler nights remain possible.

Wouldn't that equate to temperatures being significantly below average rather than around or slightly below?!

Friday 21 May - Sunday 30 May

Unsettled conditions continuing, with scattered showers again developing across most areas. These showers are likely to be heavy at times, with thunderstorms possible in places. On Friday and possibly into the weekend, more prolonged spells of rain are likely at times, especially in the west. Into next week, there is a chance of more settled conditions to gradually become established. Whilst further rain and showers are possible, overall drier and brighter conditions should become more dominant. Staying rather cool for the time of year, although night time frost will be limited, mainly across rural, northern areas. During next week, there are some indications that conditions may start to turn warmer, with temperatures closer to normal for the time of year.

Sunday 23 May - Tuesday 1 Jun

Unsettled weather continues through the start of the period, with widespread showers. Persistent rain is also possible, turning heavy locally and moving eastwards through the UK, particularly on Sunday. As next week progresses there is a chance of more settled conditions to gradually become established. Rain and showers are likely to clear away to the east, leaving drier and less windy conditions behind by the end of the week. Temperatures look likely to remain on the cool side, though feeling pleasant in the sunshine. Night temperatures could become chilly, with late season frost in prone spots a possibility. As we move into the following week, things become more uncertain, but indications suggest a continuation of drier weather with the possibility of temperatures starting to increase slightly.

Latest outlook suggest heights to our west or NW, pulling in cool showery airstream at times, but heights will be close enough to kill off chance of more general low pressure, a gradual transition from unsettled to more settled, but heights in the wrong place to deliver warm uppers, any warmth will come courtesy of homegrown warmth with heights overhead.

Unsettled weather continues through the start of next week, with widespread showers. Persistent rain is also possible at times, particularly in the north and west. As next week progresses there is a chance of more settled conditions to gradually become established. Rain and showers are likely to become confined to the east, leaving drier and less windy conditions for the rest of the country. Temperatures look likely to remain on the cool side, though feeling pleasant in the sunshine. Night temperatures could become chilly, with late season frost in prone spots a possibility. As we move into the following week, things become more uncertain, but indications suggest a continuation of drier weather with the possibility of temperatures starting to increase slightly closer to normal.

Wednesday 2 Jun - Wednesday 16 Jun

Confidence is low for this period, which is usual during spring and early summer. Current expectations is that conditions will be predominantly dry, especially across the south and east. Less settled interludes are still possible, however, especially in the northwest. There are indications that temperatures will likely start recovering, moving more towards typical temperatures for this time of year. Settled conditions are likely to keep nights cool, but produce some warmer days.

Wednesday 26 May - Friday 4 Jun

High pressure will slowly become the overarching pattern across the UK during the period as it moves in from the west. This will bring mostly settled conditions across the country, but with some moderate showers at first in the east likely. There remains a risk of some rain or showers at times throughout, most likely affecting areas in the far south or the far north if so. The overall temperatures are likely to be close to or below the average for this time of year, with some warmer days balanced out by colder nights. Becoming more uncertain later in the period, but the most likely scenario is for largely dry weather to continue across much of the UK, particularly in southern and eastern parts of the country.

Friday 4 Jun - Friday 18 Jun

Confidence is low for this period, but it is most likely that dry weather will continue across the UK, especially in southern and eastern areas. There is still a possibility of more unsettled weather making its way into the country, bringing rain and strong winds. If this occurs then it is most likely to affect areas in the north and northwest. Temperatures are likely to return to near average overall, with warm days but cooler nights.

Friday 28 May - Sunday 6 Jun

High pressure will be the largely dominant feature across the UK during this period, as it gradually builds in from the west. This will bring mainly fine and settled conditions across the UK, with temperatures recovering and feeling locally warm in southern and central areas. There however remains the possibility of cloudier weather and some rain at times towards the west and northwest of the UK. Mostly dry conditions are likely to continue through this period especially towards the south and east but there remains the risk of some brief interludes of rain or showers, most likely affecting areas in the northwest and far south. Temperatures overall are likely to be close to average for the time of year, with some warmer days balanced out by colder nights.

Sunday 6 Jun - Sunday 20 Jun

Confidence is low for this period, but it is most likely that largely dry weather will continue across much of the UK, especially towards the south and east. Some spells of more unsettled weather bringing rain and strong winds remains a possibility which would be most likely towards the north and northwest. Temperatures are likely to be near average overall, with warm days but still some chilly nights.

Sunday 30 May - Tuesday 8 Jun

High pressure will initially be dominant over the UK, with many areas experiencing warm, dry and sunny weather on Sunday and Monday, however, outbreaks of rain are signalled to gradually move in from the northwest on Monday, marking a change to more unsettled conditions. Showers are likely to be widespread through the middle part of next week, many of which could be heavy and there is a risk of thunderstorms, more so in central and southeastern areas. Prolonged spells of rain are possible at times too. There will be some drier and brighter intervals but in general temperatures will be slightly below average during this unsettled period. By the end of the period, more settled conditions are expected to return and temperatures should recover to back average.

Tuesday 8 Jun - Tuesday 22 Jun

Confidence is low for this period, but it is most likely that drier and more settled conditions looks most probable across much of the UK. Whilst a good deal of fine and dry weather is possible across central and southern areas, rain is also likely at times. The north and northwest of the UK may well be more unsettled, with more frequent spells of rain and shorter-lived spells of dry conditions than elsewhere. On the whole, temperatures are likely to be around average, with warm days but still the odd chilly night, and southern areas may occasionally receive spells of warmer than average weather.
