It is an improvement indeed. I find it odd though that the wording changed an hour after the outlook was issued.

Fence sitting or a more realistic assessment for UK weather in coming days and weeks? Either way it is mid-Winter and the reading screams bulk standard UK mid-Winter weather.

A cold spell on its way in the middle of Winter and there's snow on hills and in the North. Unusual? Nah.

Will the new update be ok for you

oh nooooooooo!!

What date you go/come back k?

Going Sunday and coming back on the 31st. I can see even Piccadilly getting a covering of snow while i won't be here.

I can only hope that there will still be some fun to be had in February.

First post in here so be gentle lol, according to Wiki, my memory is terrible, last years cold spell (Beast From The East) started on 24th February, looking back to page 78 on this thread, from the 2nd February update is the first time they started mentioning "with a greater chance of easterly winds, potentially bringing some very cold weather" this was for the outlook from 16th Feb 2018 to 2nd March 2018.

The same mention of easterly winds was in every single day update from the 2nd February to the 16th so they were very confident of this happening.  On the 17th February which was for the period 4th March to 18th March it changed from Easterly to winds originating from continental Europe.  They hardly changed the outlook for 2 weeks wording changing slightly, have we seen anything as consistent in the build up from Met Office to this or will we ?  Is it completely different this time hitting us from all directions etc..

It wasn't it's yesterday's update

The mid and long range forecasts update once a day late morning or early afternoon

Ignore the time stamp it's a bug from when they update the short range forecast.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 23 Jan 2019 to Friday 1 Feb 2019:

The latter half of next week looks to stay cold or very cold, with frosts likely most nights. There may be cloud, rain and hill snow perhaps on Wednesday or Thursday, but thereafter turning brighter with showers. These will feed in from eastern coasts, but are likely to bring sleet or snow for some. There is a small chance of a weather system approaching the northwest over the weekend, which could bring significant amounts of snow on meeting the cold air. However, this is still very uncertain and it is best to stay up to date with the latest forecast. It will stay cold until the end of January with spells of rain, sleet and snow at times. However, some drier and brighter interludes are still likely, with overnight frost.

UK Outlook for Saturday 2 Feb 2019 to Saturday 16 Feb 2019:

The cold weather will continue as we head through the first half of February. There is a greater risk of seeing snow at lower levels as well as on the hills. Some drier and brighter periods are possible in the northwest, but in the south there is a chance of weather fronts approaching which bring a risk of rain, sleet and perhaps significant snow at times.
