UK Outlook for Friday 2 Feb 2018 to Friday 16 Feb 2018:

Through the first half of February the UK's weather is likely to be characterised by a mixture of short-lived spells of unsettled weather interspersed by showery conditions and longer periods of more settled and drier weather. The unsettled spells will bring cloud and rain to parts of the UK and the showery periods may give some snow in the north, especially over high ground. During the settled spells, it is likely to be cold with overnight frost and fog. Temperatures are expected to fluctuate around the average for the time of year.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 24 Jan 2018 to Friday 2 Feb 2018:

A band of rain will gradually clear on Wednesday with brighter but showery conditions following on behind. It will stay changeable towards the end of the working week with a mixture of sunny spells and showers or longer periods of rain. Northwestern parts are likely to see the heaviest rain with snow possible over high ground, and it will be driest in the south and east. Also, it will be windy at times particularly in the northwest. As we head through to the end of the week and indeed the beginning of February, it is likely to turn mainly dry and perhaps colder, particularly in the south, with overnight frost and fog more likely here. Winds are expected to ease overall with any strong winds more likely in the north.

UK Outlook for Saturday 3 Feb 2018 to Saturday 17 Feb 2018:

Early February is likely to bring a relatively settled period of weather with a good deal of dry weather, relatively light winds and frost and fog expected to form overnight. There is considerable uncertainty at this stage however, as head towards the middle of February we are most likely to see short spells of wet and windy weather move across the UK, interspersed with colder, brighter and drier interludes. Throughout this period temperatures are expected to average out at close to normal but it will be colder at times during the periods of more settled weather

How?  Ok, little sign of a prolonged cold spell, but it doesn't look like they're forecasting prolonged periods of mild south westerlies either!

Not anything of notable cold and no mention at all really Ref snow. So if this is people’s idea of a good update I despair. :D

True, but if you're,in the snow starved South of England there is precious little there for comfort. Once you get past mid February the odds of snow sticking the South start to increase markedly.

I live in the snow starved south and haven't seen any notable snow IMBY for five years!  However, fortunately on December the 10th I didn't have to travel far to find some, plus I saw a little snow on my travels up north this week, so that's something.  However, while I think it's probably unlikely the south will see any significant snow this winter, I haven't quite given up hope just yet.

5 years? That is bad.

But you're right, never give up hope.

UK Outlook for Thursday 25 Jan 2018 to Saturday 3 Feb 2018:

The start of this period will be characterised by changeable weather. This means that many of us will see brighter, showery periods interspersed with bands of cloud and rain. Rain is likely to be heaviest in western parts with snow possible over the high ground, and it will be driest in the south and east. Also, it will be windy at times particularly in the northwest. However, as we head through to the end of the week, it is likely to turn mainly dry and perhaps a touch colder, particularly in the south, with overnight frost and fog more likely here. Winds are expected to ease overall with strong winds becoming restricted to the north.

This sounds like ridging over the UK at times. Sometimes squashed and then rebuilding.

It may become colder with an increased risk of snow in the north. Through the start of February, it is likely to turn mainly dry and perhaps rather cold, particularly in the south, with a risk of overnight frost and fog. Winds are expected to ease overall with strong winds becoming mostly restricted to the north. Wintry showers are possible at times, probably in the east.

UK Outlook for Thursday 8 Feb 2018 to Thursday 22 Feb 2018:

The second week of February is likely to bring a good deal of dry weather, with relatively light winds for most. Frost and fog are expected to form overnight and day time temperatures will generally be below average for the time of year. However spells of wet and windy weather are still possible, most likely across the north. Into the middle of February the forecast is looking very uncertain. However, we are most likely to see short spells of wet and windy weather move across the UK, interspersed with colder, brighter and drier interludes. Although there will be variation through the period, temperatures will probably average out below average for the time of year.

Tuesday will see cloudy and damp conditions with rain at times in the south, but brighter in the north with sunshine and showers. These showers may be heavy with a risk of hail and thunder, and it will be windy with gales at times. Staying changeable for the rest of next week, with brighter showery periods interspersed with bands of cloud and rain crossing from west to east. It may become colder with an increased risk of snow in the north. Through the rest of the period, probably turning drier and perhaps rather cold, particularly in the south. UK Outlook for Friday 9 Feb 2018 to Friday 23 Feb 2018:

A large degree of uncertainty exists in the forecast through this period, but it looks most likely that the second week of February should start with only slow moving weather patterns, these probably bringing a period of drier and brighter weather with overnight frosts. However some spells of milder, wet and windy weather cannot be ruled out, with these most likely across the north and west. Into the second half of February the forecast remains very uncertain. However, we are most likely to see short spells of wet and windy weather move across the UK, interspersed with colder, brighter and drier interludes. Although there will be variation through the period, temperatures will probably end up slightly below average for the time of year.
