UK Outlook for Friday 29 Dec 2017 to Sunday 7 Jan 2018:

The last few days of 2017 are looking unsettled and on the cold side for many places. As frontal systems move east across many parts of the UK, there is a risk of some snow on Friday, but this risk will become confined to hills in the north on Saturday as milder air spills in from the southwest. This changeable theme will continue into the New Year, with frontal systems bringing spells of wet weather, including a snow risk, especially in the north, but also some drier interludes too. At times it looks to become milder in the south, but will probably remain rather cold in the north. It will often be on the windy side, with the greatest risk of gales in the west and northwest.

UK Outlook for Monday 8 Jan 2018 to Monday 22 Jan 2018:

As we move through January there is an increased likelihood of settled weather, especially across the south of the UK. This trend is likely to become established by around the middle of the month and would see a corresponding increase in the chance for overnight frost and fog. It is possible that towards late January the UK could see more unsettled weather once again, with showers or longer spells of rain, and stronger winds. However, confidence in this is low at this stage. Temperatures are likely to average out a little above normal, especially in the south, but some colder spells are certainly possible.

UK Outlook for Saturday 30 Dec 2017 to Monday 8 Jan 2018:

The end of 2017 is looking unsettled with spells of wet and windy weather, but it will become milder again after a cold period following Christmas. There is a risk of some snow on the hills in the north on Saturday, but elsewhere, milder air will spill in from the southwest. This changeable theme will continue into the New Year with spells of wet weather and a snow risk, especially in the north, but there will be some drier interludes too. Temperatures will often be rather cold in the north, but are likely to be around what we would expect this time of year elsewhere. A risk of frost and ice overnight at times. It will often be windy, with the greatest risk of gales in the west and northwest.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 9 Jan 2018 to Tuesday 23 Jan 2018:

Most likely remaining unsettled across the UK at first, with a mix of rain, showers and strong winds, and a risk of snow in northern and central parts. Through the middle and towards the end of January, a northwest to southeast split is likely with southeastern parts seeing the best of the dry weather, and the northwest more likely to see wet and windy spells. Some short, drier, colder and more settled spells are likely across the UK at times. Temperatures are likely to be around average for the time of year.

Indeed more of what we have for the next 3 days, weak atlantic ridge development tilting frontal/trough activity on a more NW-SE trajectory than direct westerly - as indicated by some of the models today (I haven't commented on them today, as I think they are being too progressive and defaulting to the westerly onslaught - they often struggle over christmas-boxing day).

UK Outlook for Monday 1 Jan 2018 to Wednesday 10 Jan 2018:

The New Year looks set to start with a mixture of sunshine and showers; these heaviest and most frequent in the north and west, and wintry over higher ground here. It could be wetter in the south for a time. A band of cloud and rain is likely from the west on Tuesday, with some snow in the north over higher ground; turning windy. Temperatures will around average to rather cold. More unsettled weather will follow through the rest of the week with spells of rain followed by showers, falling as snow in the north. Widespread frosts may become more prevalent in any quieter interludes. Similar unsettled conditions are likely to remain in place until the end of the period with the best of any dry weather in the southeast.

UK Outlook for Thursday 11 Jan 2018 to Thursday 25 Jan 2018:

A northwest southeast split is likely to be in place by the second week of January with the best of any dry weather in the southeast; the northwest likely to see more rain and stronger winds at times. Temperatures are thought to be around normal or milder than average. Any colder interludes will be shorter lived. There are weaker signals for a colder, more settled spell; this scenario however looks less likely.

They do seem to sit on the fence a little less than they used to.  Makes the flips more noticeable when they occur!

Well lets hope there is another flip as this update is dreadful!!

The updates are a bit late today.  Perhaps they are having to re-write the forecast as they now expect a big freeze to kick in?!!

They probably forgot about it so they will just copy and paste yesterday's update for convenience.
