UK Outlook for Monday 16 Jan 2017 to Monday 30 Jan 2017:

The weather through this period is likely to be mostly settled, with drier and colder than normal conditions across the UK, and an increasing risk of fog and frost. However, we are likely to see brief, milder and wetter conditions at times. Generally, temperatures are expected to be below the average. There is a small risk of very cold conditions developing with a colder easterly flow to become established, and associated chance of snow in places.

UK Outlook for Friday 6 Jan 2017 to Sunday 15 Jan 2017:

Friday unsettled, especially in the north-west as a band of rain will probably move across the UK, weakening and moving southwards. A brief brighter but colder and showery interlude is likely Saturday, at least for the north and east. Milder, cloudier conditions in the west are likely to spread across all parts again later in the weekend. Further fluctuations between milder interludes and colder spells likely through the remainder of the period. Rather unsettled in the north with rain or showers and strong winds, but largely drier in the south. There's a low risk that the colder weather will spread across the whole of the UK for a time, bringing wintry showers down North Sea coasts. Some cold, clear nights with frost, and a risk of icy patches and fog.

UK Outlook for Saturday 7 Jan 2017 to Monday 16 Jan 2017:

The far south of the UK should be mostly dry on Saturday and Sunday with some sunshine. Rain is expected further north but this should clear to showers, wintry on high ground. Later on Sunday it may turn cloudier, with outbreaks of rain across the west. A breezy weekend is likely, with temperatures close to normal. During the following week high pressure is expected across southern Britain giving mostly dry weather, and patchy overnight frost and fog. Further north it looks more unsettled with a greater chance of wetter and windier spells but also some cold snaps at times. This general north/south divide and pattern of weather across the UK is currently expected to last into the middle of the month.

The above suggests the current block is unlikely to move too far from our shores through much of the month, perhaps doing what it is forecast to do this weekend, pulling in milder wetter conditions from the NW, but then perhaps a more pronounced deeper low pressure system may swing in from the NW with the ridge toppling in over behind and to the NE to produce a colder easterly feed. I can see much logic in this pattern developing. So hopefully we will see Jan return at least a bit of wintry potential with quite a bit of cold weather albeit of the dry frosty variety.

UK Outlook for Monday 9 Jan 2017 to Wednesday 18 Jan 2017:

Monday is likely to be wet and windy everywhere, with heavy rain and gales in the north-west. The south-east may stay dry at first, but wind and rain will get there eventually. Tuesday will bring clearer showery weather in the north, and some of the showers may be wintry. The rest of the week will probably stay rather unsettled with rain and strong winds at times, particularly in the north-west. Temperatures will start off mild, but become colder in the north, bringing frost on some nights. The start of the following week may well see a change to drier and colder weather with a greater chance of overnight frost and fog. However, some brief wetter and milder spells of weather are also likely.

UK Outlook for Thursday 19 Jan 2017 to Thursday 2 Feb 2017:

The most likely scenario for the second half of January is mostly settled weather, with drier and colder weather predominant across the UK, and an increasing risk of night fog and frost. However, there is a good deal of uncertainty about this and we are likely to see milder and wetter conditions at times. Generally, temperatures are expected to be below average. There is a small risk of very cold weather developing later in the month with a cold east wind becoming established, and an associated chance of snow in places.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 10 Jan 2017 to Thursday 19 Jan 2017:

Tuesday looks likely to see sunshine, with perhaps some wintry showers, however cloud and rain will push eastwards throughout the day. This should clear through on Wednesday, leaving predominantly unsettled showery weather for the rest of the week, some of these showers wintry further north. This will be interspersed with brief milder spells of bands of cloud and rain crossing the country. It'll be often windy, with gales or severe gales in the north-west. Temperatures will generally be on the cold side, with a risk of frosts at times although there will be occasional milder spells. The start of the following week may well see a change to drier and colder weather, with a greater chance of overnight frost and fog.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 3 Jan 2017 to Tuesday 17 Jan 2017:

There is a good deal of uncertainty for this period. However signals point towards high pressure becoming dominant again in the UK, meaning some longer drier and quieter spells for many, and thus a greater likelihood of local frost and patchy fog by night. However, there are likely to be spells of more unsettled weather at times. There is also the potential, although with very little confidence attached to it, that pressure may also build to the west of the UK across the Atlantic, and this would bring a high chance of seeing a colder interlude develop.

UK Outlook for Saturday 21 Jan 2017 to Saturday 4 Feb 2017:

The most likely scenario for the end of January into early February is for mostly a slowly evolving weather patterns. Overall colder weather likely predominant across the UK, with risk of showers, wintry at times, around coasts and inland fog at times. However, there is a good deal of uncertainty about this and we are likely to see periods of milder and wetter conditions at times. Generally, temperatures are expected to be below average. There is a small risk of a cold easterly wind developing later in the month, which would bring very cold weather, and an associated chance of snow in places.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 11 Jan 2017 to Friday 20 Jan 2017:

Wednesday will be unsettled, with showers in the north easing as cloud and rain moves in from the west, heavy at times, particularly over western hills. It will be a milder day, although it will turn colder from the northwest, with wintry showers possible later on Wednesday. Thursday will continue to be unsettled, with a cold northerly wind bringing a mixture of sunshine and showers. The showers turning increasingly wintry, particularly over the hills during Thursday and Friday, also down North Sea coasts. Further rain is likely to push in from the Atlantic during the weekend, which may be preceded by snow over northern hills. Into the following week, we may see drier and colder conditions, but with some rain or showers in the north and west, particularly around coasts.

The above suggests more of the same, the ridge never shifting too far from our shores, never sufficiently north enough to produce high lattitude blocking, but never sufficiently south enough to bring in any sustained mild weather - or indeed collapsing into central europe as it did in December. It suggests NW incursions, and the threat of one low pressure system swinging in deep enough to pull in an easterly feed behind but a fairly dry one.

Not a bad outlook for wintry weather, could be much better, but also far worse, no sign of balmy southwesterlies or raging stormy wet westerlies on the horizon - how different to last winter in this respect, thank goodness!

UK Outlook for Thursday 12 Jan 2017 to Saturday 21 Jan 2017:

Thursday sees rain in the south clearing to a mixture of sunshine and showers across the country. These showers will turn increasingly wintry, even to lower levels in the north, where they will be most frequent. It'll be windy with coastal gales, and turning colder with frosts likely overnight. Conditions are expected to stay unsettled through the weekend, with areas of cloud and rain pushing west to east across the country, interspersed with brighter, showery spells. It will stay windy, with a risk of gales in the north-west. Into the following week confidence is low, but signs point towards drier, colder and less windy conditions to begin to dominate, although with occasional brief spells of milder and wetter weather, these perhaps preceded by snow in some areas.

UK Outlook for Sunday 22 Jan 2017 to Sunday 5 Feb 2017:

Confidence is fairly low in details as we head to the end of the month, but the most likely scenario is for generally drier and settled conditions to be prevalent in this period. Colder weather is likely to be predominant across the UK, with a risk of some showers at times, these occasionally wintry, particularly over hills and in the north. There may be milder and wetter spells during the period, but these are more likely to be rather brief. Temperatures are expected to mostly be around average or below, leading to a higher risk of frost overnight, as well as misty or foggy conditions at times.

Not much of an upgrade in my eyes. I was hoping it would mention for the weekend that the systems would come from the northwest but it says bands of rain crossing west to east. So they must be expecting the pattern to flatten by next weekend before the high takes over.
