UK Outlook for Saturday 29 Oct 2016 to Monday 7 Nov 2016:

High pressure will remain established across the south through the weekend, bringing a good deal of dry and quiet weather for many. However, some will see occasional mist and fog form overnight and this may well be slow to clear by day. Temperatures will be mostly above average, but with some cold nights in the south, perhaps with local frost. Meanwhile, the north of the UK is likely to be wetter and windier at times, more so further west. From Monday onwards the expectation is generally for colder weather with more widespread night frosts, and generally northerly or north-westerly winds over the UK. Indications suggest unsettled weather with showers and strong winds in the north, and generally drier weather with lighter winds further south.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 8 Nov 2016 to Tuesday 22 Nov 2016:

The outlook for mid November looks to be predominantly settled perhaps with brief unsettled periods at times. At fist indications suggest northerly or north-westerly winds to predominate over the UK, leading to lower than average temperatures for many and a widespread risk of frosts. The expectation is also for more unsettled, showery conditions in the north, perhaps with strong winds, and drier more settled weather in the south. Towards the end of the period confidence is low, although signals suggest a change from more settled conditions towards milder and more unsettled weather at some point.

The 1st mention of snow

UK Outlook for Wednesday 9 Nov 2016 to Wednesday 23 Nov 2016:

The outlook for mid November remains uncertain. Although spells of windier and stormier weather look to be less likely than normally expected at this time of year. At first, indications suggest northerly or north-westerly winds to predominate over the UK, leading to lower than average temperatures for many and a widespread risk of frosts. The expectation is also for windier more showery conditions in the north, with snow over some higher ground, and drier more settled weather in the south. Towards the end of the period confidence continues to be low, with the more likely scenario looking to be a continuation of the mainly, drier, settled weather, although there remains a possibility of a change towards milder more unsettled conditions.

For Monday and Tuesday high pressure will stay established across the south, bringing a good deal of dry and quiet weather for many. Meanwhile, the north of the UK is likely to be wetter and windier at times, more so further west. From Wednesday confidence is quite low, although the expectation is for colder weather with more widespread night frosts, and generally northerly or north-westerly winds over the UK. Note the difference the last sentence compared to yesterdays update...

Yesterday.... "although there remains a possibility of a change towards milder more unsettled conditions."

Today....."continuation of the mainly drier, settled weather, although there is a signal for below average temperatures."

UK Outlook for Tuesday 1 Nov 2016 to Thursday 10 Nov 2016:

It will be settled in the south at first, with a good deal of fine and dry weather but with overnight patchy fog and chilly nights are likely. Meanwhile, the north of the UK is likely to be wetter and windier at times, more so further west. The rain in the north will probably move southwards by midweek, although it'll be lighter in the south, especially in the southeast. Colder air will then move in behind this from the northwest, bringing showers that may be wintry over high ground in the north. There'll be more widespread night frosts, and generally northerly or north-westerly winds over the UK, with generally drier and brighter weather and lighter winds further south.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 2 Nov 2016 to Friday 11 Nov 2016:

Cloud and rain may be slow to clear from southern parts of the UK at first on Wednesday. However, as this clears away to the south we will see a colder northerly airflow becoming established across the UK. This will bring a mixture of sunshine and scattered showers, particularly across the north and east on Wednesday. Feeling cold in the brisk northerly wind around windward coasts and hills. Chilly by night, with the risk of frost in places. Meanwhile, we'll see cloud and patchy rain edging into the far northwest on Thursday. Thereafter, high pressure seems likely to be situated to the west of the UK, bringing generally settled weather for many, although unsettled conditions edging in from the northwest at times. Temperatures are likely to be below average.

UK Outlook for Thursday 3 Nov 2016 to Saturday 12 Nov 2016:

High pressure will continue in the south on Thursday bringing fairly quiet conditions with overnight frost, especially where there is good shelter from the northerly wind. Across the far north-west though, the winds will become stronger with outbreaks of rain and drizzle, which will sink southwards across all parts during Friday. From the first weekend, there is a greater chance that we will see slightly more unsettled conditions, with showers or longer spells of rain spreading in from the north-west. There will still be some drier and brighter interludes at times and where these occur, there is a higher likelihood of encountering frost and fog. On the whole, temperatures will remain on the cold side, especially when combined with the stronger winds.

UK Outlook for Sunday 13 Nov 2016 to Sunday 27 Nov 2016:

From mid November the forecast becomes more uncertain, however spells of windier and stormier weather look to be less frequent than would normally be expected for the time of the year. It looks more likely that we'll see a continuation of the north or north-westerly winds bringing cooler than usual temperatures, with the potential for more widespread frosts. Northern parts are likely to see more in the way of showers or longer spells of rain and stronger winds, with the risk of snow, especially over some higher ground. Further south, it will perhaps be drier with more widespread frost and fog under lighter winds. Towards the end of the month, the mostly likely scenario is for fairly similar conditions to continue with temperatures remaining on the cold side.

The forecast remains very uncertain for mid to late November. However spells of windier and stormier weather look to be less frequent than would normally be expected for the time of the year. It looks most likely that we'll see a continuation of winds from a broadly northerly direction at first bringing cooler than usual temperatures, with potential for widespread frosts. Northern parts are likely to see more in the way of showers or longer spells of rain and stronger winds, with the risk of snow, especially over some higher ground. Further south, it will perhaps be drier with more widespread frost and fog under lighter winds.

UK Outlook for Friday 4 Nov 2016 to Sunday 13 Nov 2016:

On Friday the expectation is for rain in the south of the country to clear slowly southwards, leaving sunshine and blustery showers across the whole of the UK. Temperatures will mostly be colder than average, with some snow over Scottish mountains. Thereafter, there is large degree of uncertainty regarding details, but this general theme looks set to continue from Saturday, with winds mainly from the north, and showers or bands of rain running into the country. Temperatures will likely stay on the cool side, with frosts increasingly likely overnight and occasional snowfall over high ground in the north of the UK. Periods of milder weather are possible, but the expectation is that any of these will be brief, with the colder theme being predominant.

Remaining generally cold on Tuesday and Wednesday next week with many places dry with some sunshine. Showers may continue across the south-east of the UK, with some sleet or snow possible over high ground. A little rain is also possible across the north and west. Widespread overnight frosts are expected, along with patchy fog. Through the rest of the week and into the middle of the month there is a large degree of uncertainty, but most signals suggest a change to a slightly less cold feel, particularly across the west and north-west. Here it may be more unsettled, with showers or bands of rain at times, and windy in some places too. Eastern areas meanwhile, may hold onto a generally colder and drier theme to the weather.
