UK Outlook for Monday 7 Apr 2014 to Wednesday 16 Apr 2014:

 

An unsettled start to next week with spells of rain, heavy at times, affecting many areas to begin with. Clearer, but colder, showery and quite windy conditions will then follow from the west during Monday, but perhaps not reach southern and eastern regions until Tuesday. These colder and showery conditions are then expected to persist for two or three days, especially in the north. Showers then likely to be heavy at times and also wintry over hills. Temperatures by both day and night then colder than of late, with frost and icy patches likely overnight. Later next week conditions are likely to turn drier, less windy and more settled again. Nights then probably still chilly with a risk of ground frost, but feeling warmer again by day.

Rain which is likely to be heavy at times, will affect eastern areas to begin with on Tuesday. However, clearer, but colder, showery and quite windy conditions will then follow from the west during the day, reaching all areas later. These colder and showery conditions are then expected to persist for two or three days, with winds easing in the south. Showers, mainly in the north, are likely to be heavy at times and also wintry over hills. Temperatures by both day and night colder than of late, with frost and icy patches likely overnight. From next weekend conditions are likely to remain mainly dry in the south and east, while the northwest will become more unsettled with the highest risk of occasional rain.

It should be mostly fine at first with light winds, although the far northwest of the UK may be cloudier and breezier with rain at times. A few showers are possible in the southwest on Thursday too. It will be quite chilly by night with frost possible but daytime temperatures should be near or above average. Indications then show generally more unsettled weather by the end of the week with most places seeing rain at times but there should be some decent dry interludes too, especially in the south and east of the UK. Temperatures may also become nearer to normal, perhaps a little below in the north. Into the following week there are signs of more settled weather returning, particularly across southern areas.

Indications then show generally more unsettled weather during the weekend with rain moving southeastwards across the UK, heaviest in the northwest. Into the following week, there are signals for southern parts to see more settled and drier weather, with the most unsettled and windiest conditions further north. Temperatures should be mainly near normal, perhaps rather warm at times over central and southern parts, and maybe a little below average in the far north.

Early rain will clear southern areas on Friday to leave a drier day with sunny spells and showers and staying breezy in the north with further rain later. This will move southwards through Saturday, weakening as it does so. Brighter, showery weather will follow to the north with rain clearing all areas on Sunday morning with sunny spells, showers and cooler temperatures following. By Monday, it turns drier and sunnier across southern areas, with rain and stronger winds in the north. Temperatures will be mostly near normal but rather warm in the south, although local frost is still possible. Thereafter, a north/south split in the weather looks likely, with southern areas enjoying the driest conditions with wetter and windier periods in the north.

High pressure will bring plenty of dry and fine weather for most through Sunday, Monday and Tuesday with variable cloud amounts and sunny spells, but with cold nights bringing patchy frost. However, a band of cloud and rain on Sunday will make limited southward progress before gradually dying out, showers will follow into northern parts. Temperatures around normal to rather warm, particularly in the sunny spells in the southeast. Conditions are likely to deteriorate from the west on Wednesday into Thursday as spells of rain and windier conditions push across the country possibly introducing cooler temperatures with the risk of snow across northern high ground. Thereafter, despite considerable uncertainty, there is an increasing signal for pressure to rebuild from the west or southwest bringing a return to more settled conditions.
