UK Outlook for Thursday 5 Dec 2013 to Saturday 14 Dec 2013:

A band of rain will spread southwards during Thursday, giving snow over high ground in Scotland and northern England. Clearer, colder and windy conditions will follow from the northwest with showers, these falling as snow from northern England northwards. Showers may turn wintry in the south later on Thursday and during Friday but the south and southwest should see the driest weather. Temperatures are likely to be below normal and feel colder still in the wind. Little change is expected during the weekend, with unsettled and cold weather continuing, and snow for northern Britain in particular. Thereafter, milder conditions are likely to spread from the west across much of the UK, with some more settled weather over the south.

UK Outlook for Sunday 15 Dec 2013 to Sunday 29 Dec 2013:

There are signs that the period will start generally settled, especially in southern Britain, with temperatures near average for the time of year. However, there are indications that later in December a change to more unsettled weather may develop, particularly towards the north and northwest of the UK. This would mean that the best of any drier and brighter conditions would be further south and southeast. Temperatures look to remain around normal.

UK Outlook for Friday 6 Dec 2013 to Sunday 15 Dec 2013:

Very cold, with a mixture of sunny spells and snow showers on Friday and through much of the weekend, leading to snow accumulations in places, especially northern Scotland and some exposed areas close to western and eastern coasts. Gale force winds in the north and east for a time, with blizzards on hills. Many southern and central inland areas largely sunny but with widespread night frost. Late in the weekend, but more especially into next week, cloudier, milder conditions are likely to filter slowly from the northwest, although many southeastern areas may remain cold with some clear spells. Thereafter, a northwest/southeast divide becomes established, with the more unsettled but often milder weather tending to be in the northwest, and the best of the drier weather towards the south and east.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 11 Dec 2013 to Friday 20 Dec 2013:

It will be mostly cloudy in the northwest on Wednesday and Thursday with rain, locally heavy, accompanied by strong winds. Further to the south and east, it will be mainly dry with sunny spells and lighter winds. It will be fairly mild in the north and west but colder elsewhere with a threat of overnight frost and persistent fog patches, particularly in the southeast. The northwest and southeast split is likely to continue thereafter with only a low risk that more unsettled conditions could spread further southeastwards for a time. Temperatures will remain a little below normal in the southeast of the country and it may be cold in areas where fog persists throughout the day.

There is, however, a low risk of colder conditions affecting southern and southeastern areas with an increased risk of frost and fog.

UK Outlook for Friday 13 Dec 2013 to Sunday 22 Dec 2013:

It will be mostly cloudy in the northwest of the UK at first with rain, locally heavy, accompanied by strong winds and gales. This will help maintain the mild feel, with temperatures above average. Elsewhere, and more especially towards the south and east, it will be mainly dry with bright spells and lighter winds. Clear spells and lower overnight temperatures here will bring a risk of frost and persistent fog patches. A similar pattern of weather is likely to continue into the start of the following week but there is an increasing risk that unsettled conditions could spread further southeastwards. UK Outlook for Saturday 14 Dec 2013 to Monday 23 Dec 2013:

Mostly cloudy in the northwest of the UK at first with rain, locally heavy, accompanied by strong winds with local gales, although brighter spells are likely to the northeast of high ground. These conditions will help keep temperatures above average. Elsewhere, and particularly towards the south and east, it will be mainly dry with some brightness and lighter winds. Clear spells and low overnight temperatures here will bring a risk of frost and fog patches. There is an increasing risk that unsettled conditions could spread further southeastwards during the following week but the south and east should stay the driest. Thereafter, indications are that most of the UK will see changeable weather, with wet and windy spells alternating with drier, brighter intervals, the best of these in the southeast.

UK Outlook for Monday 16 Dec 2013 to Wednesday 25 Dec 2013:

Through next week it should be windy across much of the UK. The most unsettled weather will be in the north and west, where there will be a continuing risk of heavy rain and severe gales. Across the south and east the rain should be less widespread and the winds lighter. It will be generally mild although some wintry showers are possible in the northwest, and there will be some overnight frosts. Through the weekend and into the following week there is still likely to be the risk of severe gales and heavy rain. It should still be mild across much of the UK although it may turn colder at times in the north, with wintry showers still possible. However, there will also be some sunshine in places.
