There some good news on this update

UK Outlook for Friday 11 Feb 2011 to Sunday 20 Feb 2011:

UK Outlook for Saturday 12 Feb 2011 to Monday 21 Feb 2011:

Generally unsettled over the weekend and to start next week, with bands of rain slowly pushing northeastwards across the country. Most of the rain will be in the west, where it will occasionally be heavy and prolonged at first, with drier conditions further east. Despite temperatures of around average or just above in the south, it will feel colder in the often strong winds, especially in the north and west of the UK, where there is a risk of gales. Remaining mainly dry in the east through the remainder of the period, with winds becoming east or southeasterly, giving a significant wind chill. Further west it is likely to remain more unsettled and less cold.

There will be some dry spells of weather across the UK through this period, but bands of rain, accompanied by strong southeasterly winds, with a chance of gales in the far north, will move northeastwards at times, the rain turning to sleet and snow over hills and to lower levels across some northern and eastern areas. The heaviest and most persistent rain is likely in the west, particularly the southwest, with eastern areas tending to be drier. Temperatures will be near or below average, but cold at times, particularly in the north and east. UK Outlook for Tuesday 15 Feb 2011 to Thursday 24 Feb 2011:

It is likely to be a cold but settled start across much of the UK, with sunny spells by day and frost forming widely overnight along with some freezing fog patches. There is also a risk of wintry showers for eastern parts and perhaps cloudier conditions with some rain in the far southwest. There is then an increasing trend towards western parts turning milder and unsettled, with strong winds at times and outbreaks of rain. This rain turning to snow over hills, particularly early on. Eastern parts are most likely to remain cold and dry, with a continuing risk of frost and fog overnight. However, unsettled conditions may spread from the west at times, bringing a possibility of snow for low levels in the northeast.

UK Outlook for Friday 18 Feb 2011 to Sunday 27 Feb 2011:

It will stay cold in the northeast of the United Kingdom, but mild and wet weather in the south and west of Britain should very slowly make some progress eastwards. Weather fronts will try to push northeastwards across the UK next weekend, with southwestern parts most likely to be mild and wet. Further north and east there is an increasing risk of precipitation turning wintry as it encounters the colder air, particularly on high ground, with significant snowfall possible on the Scottish mountains. During the following week, the mild and wet weather to the southwest should very gradually win the battle with many parts of the UK eventually joining the south and west in seeing near or slightly above average temperatures, with bands of rain followed by sunshine and showers.

A generally cloudy and quite windy weekend is expected, with outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow at times. It will be rather cold in the northeast, with snow most likely here, giving a risk of some large accumulations, mainly over high ground. Outbreaks of rain are most likely further south and west, where temperatures are expected to be less cold, although with hill snow still affecting some central areas. Temperatures should become near normal generally, and mild in some southern parts, early next week, with snow becoming confined to Scottish mountains. It will remain largely unsettled though, with showers or longer spells of rain at times throughout the period, but also some drier and brighter spells.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 22 Feb 2011 to Thursday 3 Mar 2011:

Generally unsettled and windy at times through much of next week with showers or longer spells of rain, although some brighter spells are likely too, particularly towards the southeast. It will probably be rather cold in the far northeast at times, with sleet or snow possible, mainly falling over high ground. Elsewhere, temperatures should be near-normal to mild. Later in the week, drier, brighter and somewhat colder conditions appear increasingly likely across the south and the east, with more night frosts. However, there is a small risk of much colder conditions developing in the east. From the last weekend of February and beyond, dry weather looks more likely to dominate, although it may be more unsettled at times in the northwest. By this stage, temperatures are very uncertain.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 1 Mar 2011 to Thursday 10 Mar 2011:

A largely settled start to the new month, mainly dry, with temperatures around normal, and a chance of some cloud and light rain moving southwards during Wednesday. Overnight frost and fog patches are likely under clear spells. Turning colder towards the end of the first week with north or northeasterly winds developing, but remaining mostly under high pressure giving mainly settled, but often cloudy conditions. This may, however, introduce a risk of wintry showers in the north and east. The best of the sunshine is expected towards the west of the UK. Becoming a little more unsettled into the following week, particularly in northwest, with perhaps still an easterly influence across the south, but becoming mostly dry here. Temperatures becoming normal in the north, but below normal in the south.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 2 Mar 2011 to Friday 11 Mar 2011:

A cooler outlook, with some cloud and rain moving southwards during Wednesday and Thursday, then turning drier, colder and windier across northern and eastern parts of the UK, with fairly cloudy conditions and a chance of showers, perhaps turning wintry at times. Meanwhile, remaining cold, but drier, brighter and less windy further south and west. Overnight frost and fog patches are likely under clear spells for many with temperatures below normal for the time of year. High pressure should build during the weekend and into the new week, becoming drier for many and staying bright, but remaining chilly with overnight frost continuing. Later into the following week, the weather may start to turn more unsettled in the northwest, with some wind and rain here, and temperatures generally returning to normal.

UK Outlook for Friday 4 Mar 2011 to Sunday 13 Mar 2011:

A cool and generally settled start to the outlook across much of the UK, with variable amounts of cloud but also some bright or sunny periods, the best of these often in western areas. Under the influence of high pressure, many places will be essentially dry throughout, although a few light wintry showers are possible in eastern and northeastern regions, chiefly near the coast. Overnight frost and fog patches are likely under clear spells with temperatures generally below normal for the time of year and cold in the south at first. Towards the second weekend, the weather may start to turn more unsettled in the northwest, with an increasing likelihood of wind and rain here and temperatures returning to near normal.

UK Outlook for Saturday 5 Mar 2011 to Monday 14 Mar 2011:

On the first weekend many areas should have dry weather with a little sunshine at times. The east coast may have a little rain for a time on Saturday, as might the far north on Sunday. Winds mostly light but moderate to strong for a time in the far northeast and later northwest. Temperatures generally a little below normal, with patchy frost under night time cloud breaks. The following week will begin mainly dry with some sunny spells in places, but rain and stronger winds are likely to affect the northwest by midweek. Temperatures slightly above normal in the north but a little below in the south. The rest of the period should see unsettled weather with average temperatures for all areas but the south may escape.

UK Outlook for Sunday 6 Mar 2011 to Tuesday 15 Mar 2011:

It looks likely to be a rather settled, if quite cloudy start. Most places should stay dry however, although the odd spot of light rain or drizzle cannot be ruled out. Temperatures will be generally a little below normal, with a risk of frost under any night time cloud breaks. From the middle of the first week it looks likely that it will turn unsettled and milder across northern parts of the UK, with outbreaks of occasionally heavy rain and strong, perhaps gale-force winds at times. However towards the south it is likely to remain somewhat drier but rather cold with often large amounts of cloud and the risk of overnight frost continuing wherever there are clear skies.
