UK Outlook for Thursday 13 Jan 2011 to Saturday 22 Jan 2011:

Remaining unsettled with outbreaks of occasionally heavy rain for many, particularly western parts. The rain may turn to snow at times but will be limited to the hills of Scotland at first. It will also be breezy at times, with a risk of gales in western parts. To start, temperatures will be above average for most, although it will be closer to average in the far north. However, midway through the period temperatures are likely to become increasingly cold in northern parts, and closer to average in the south. The snow risk will also slowly creep south, although still mainly confined to hills except across Scotland where snow could penetrate to lower levels and overnight frost will become increasingly common.

UK Outlook for Sunday 16 Jan 2011 to Tuesday 25 Jan 2011:

Sunday is expected to be wet and mild in southern areas with heavy rain over western hills. Colder, and brighter in the north with a few showers, these wintry over Scottish hills. Rain will clear southwards later to leave a cold frosty night. Then brighter with showers on Monday, but cold with possible wintry showers in the north. Through Tuesday to Friday there is the likelihood of westerly or northwesterly winds with risk of wintry showers over northern hills, but drier in the south. Windy at times with possible gales in the northwest, and on the cold side with overnight frosts. In the latter period from Saturday to Tuesday it looks as though a broad westerly, or cool northwesterly showery flow will continue, perhaps drier in southern areas at times.

UK Outlook for Monday 17 Jan 2011 to Wednesday 26 Jan 2011:

A rather unsettled working week, with windy conditions at first. Rain or showers are likely to affect the north and west of the UK at times, with drier and clearer spells perhaps more frequent in the south and east. Temperatures start the week near-normal in the north, with the south above average, although both regions should exhibit a downward trend towards the weekend. Frost and hill snow is possible from Wales northwards at first, before the falling temperatures perhaps lead to snow in the north falling to lower levels. In addition to this, the frost risk spreads southwards with icy stretches becoming a possibility behind spells of rain. From the weekend, indications are for a rather cold and unsettled theme to end the period, but with some drier spells likely.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 18 Jan 2011 to Thursday 27 Jan 2011:

It will be a rather unsettled week ahead with windy conditions, especially at first. Rain or showers and occasional gales are likely to affect the north and west of the UK at times, with drier and clearer spells rather more prevalent in the south and east. Temperatures start the week near-normal, although all areas exhibit a slight downward trend towards the weekend. Hill snow becomes rather more likely from Wales northwards. During the second week, indications are for the unsettled theme to continue across northern Britain, milder with wind and rain here, gales again occuring across Scotland and with near average temperatures. The south will be quieter with lighter winds and overnight frosts quite likely.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 19 Jan 2011 to Friday 28 Jan 2011:

The start of this period looks to be relatively settled for much of the UK, with a good deal of dry though rather cloudy weather, but with a risk of overnight frost and fog. More unsettled in the northwest with outbreaks of rain and a risk of gales. Into the weekend and the following week, rather more unsettled conditions are likely more widely across the UK, although amounts of rain in the south should be small. Also, a risk of precipitation turning wintry across more northern and northeastern parts, particularly over high ground, where it is likely to be accompanied by strong winds. Temperatures starting off rather cold, although will recover to near normal, especially in the northwest, before tending to cool off somewhat into the start of next week.

UK Outlook for Thursday 20 Jan 2011 to Saturday 29 Jan 2011:

Much of this period looks to be mainly settled across many parts of the UK, with a good deal of dry weather and some bright, wintry sunshine. It will stay on the cold side though, with overnight frost and fog patches developing under clear skies. During the period, it will turn a little more unsettled for Scotland and Northern Ireland with slightly milder weather bringing cloudier conditions and occasional outbreaks of rain or drizzle here. Also, after the first weekend there is an increasing chance of colder conditions encroaching into southeastern parts, with a risk of some wintry precipitation here. In between, staying largely dry with a mix of sunny spells and cloudy skies, with overnight frost and fog continuing.

Much of this period looks to be relatively settled, with a good deal of dry weather and variable, but often large, amounts of cloud. Some rain is possible in the north, northwest and far northeast this weekend and early next week. More unsettled conditions will then extend slowly southeast across many parts from late next week, bringing cloudier conditions and occasional outbreaks of rain. Towards the south and southeast, the drier, although rather cloudy, weather is expected to continue with overnight frost and fog patches developing in any clear spells. Temperatures are expected to be near normal generally, although on the cold side in the south at times. Throughout the period, there is a small risk of colder interludes affecting central and eastern areas at times, giving wintry showers..

UK Outlook for Sunday 23 Jan 2011 to Tuesday 1 Feb 2011:

A mostly rather cloudy start, but predominantly dry, with near-normal January temperatures coupled with clearing skies overnight leading to some frost and freezing fog. Thicker cloud likely in central and eastern areas at first perhaps giving some drizzle, with possible rain in the north and northwest giving milder-than-typical conditions here. Towards the first weekend, rain and showers in the northwest perhaps extending to other areas of the country at times. The first week as a whole should see breezy conditions easing, with the strongest winds shifting from northern and eastern parts to the north and northwest. Probably becoming more unsettled towards early February, with weather from the west or southwest likely bringing spells of rain and near-normal temperatures to northwestern parts, with the southeast drier, clearer and colder.

UK Outlook for Sunday 23 Jan 2011 to Tuesday 1 Feb 2011:

Mostly cloudy but dry at first, with near-normal January temperatures coupled with clearing skies overnight leading to some frost and freezing fog. Thicker cloud likely in central and eastern areas initially perhaps giving some drizzle, with rain possible in the north and northwest giving milder-than-typical conditions here. Most places staying dry in variable but often large amounts of cloud, with a slight overnight frost in places. Fresh to strong winds progressively becoming confined to the north and northwest, with mainly light winds elsewhere. January probably ending mostly dry in settled conditions, but becoming more unsettled into February in western and northwestern parts, bringing near-normal temperatures and some rain, with eastern areas probably drier and colder.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 26 Jan 2011 to Friday 4 Feb 2011:

Wednesday will be rather cloudy with outbreaks of mainly light rain or drizzle. Some brightness is likely at times. Feeling chilly with sometimes brisk northwesterly winds, perhaps with local frost where cloud breaks occur overnight. Still chilly and generally cloudy on Thursday, but with lighter winds. Through Friday to Sunday it looks as though it will remain largely dry with variable cloud and bright or sunny spells. Possible overnight frosts with local fog is likely as well. Generally cold, but milder in the far north of Scotland. Through the following week it looks as though the high pressure centre will decline southeastwards and allow rain and stronger winds to spread across northern and western areas, perhaps with occasional snow over Scottish hills. Still drier in the southeast.

UK Outlook for Thursday 27 Jan 2011 to Saturday 5 Feb 2011:

Chilly and generally cloudy on Thursday and Friday, but generally dry with light winds. However, some light rain or drizzle in the northwest. High pressure will remain the dominant feature from Saturday through to Monday and it looks as though it will remain largely dry with variable cloud, but also some bright or sunny spells. Overnight frosts and local fog patches not too prevalent but will occur where there are any breaks in the cloud. Generally cold, but milder in the far north of Scotland. Through the following week it looks as though the high pressure centre will decline southeastwards and allow rain and gales to spread across northern and western areas, perhaps with occasional snow over Scottish hills. Still coldest in the southeast, the north mostly near normal.

UK Outlook for Friday 28 Jan 2011 to Sunday 6 Feb 2011:

It is likely to remain generally cold, cloudy but dry at first for much of the UK, but the odd spot of light rain or drizzle cannot be ruled out, particularly in the northwest. Some breaks in the cloud are still likely, mainly in sheltered areas, allowing sunny spells by day and a patchy frost overnight. Into the new week northwestern parts will become increasingly unsettled with outbreaks of rain and hill snow at times, accompanied by strong, possibly gale-force winds. It will however, be fairly mild in these areas. Towards the southeast it is likely to remain predominantly dry, cold and cloudy with light winds. Once again the odd break in the cloud is still possible, giving some sunshine by day and the risk of frost and fog overnight.

UK Outlook for Saturday 29 Jan 2011 to Monday 7 Feb 2011:

This weekend it is likely to remain rather cold and cloudy for much of the United Kingdom. Though mainly dry, patchy light rain could occur in the northwest whilst scattered light snow flurries may affect more southern parts. Some breaks in the cloud are also likely, particularly towards the south and east and especially as we move into next week, with some sunny spells likely. During this time it is also like to be rather cold in southern parts, which will lead to an increasing incidence of overnight frost and fog. However, also through next week, northwestern parts seem likely to become increasingly unsettled and milder with outbreaks of rain and hill snow at times accompanied by strong, possibly gale force winds.

UK Outlook for Sunday 30 Jan 2011 to Tuesday 8 Feb 2011:

Most areas are expected to remain largely dry and settled, although often cloudy with below average temperatures. In spite of the cloud some bright or sunny spells are likely at times, best of these probably over southern and eastern parts of the UK, any clearer spells overnight giving a risk of frost and freezing fog. Northern and northwestern parts of the country are expected to be more unsettled and windier but less cold, with outbreaks of rain, drizzle and hill snow, strong to gale force winds likely in exposed areas here at times. Later next week, these cloudier, more unsettled conditions may spread into western and southwestern areas at times whilst elsewhere temperatures may recover towards the early February norm.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 2 Feb 2011 to Friday 11 Feb 2011:

The early to mid part of next week is expected to mark a transition from the current relatively settled conditions to a much more changeable, unsettled, and often windy weather type. These unsettled conditions, marked by spells of clearer, showery weather alternating with cloudier periods with more widespread rain, will then persist across the UK through the rest of next week and onwards through the following week. Rain will be heavy at times, especially to the north and west, whilst showers will occasionally be wintry, particularly over northern regions. Often windy, with gales or severe gales possible some days, with northwestern Britain most at risk. Meanwhile, considerable day-to-day fluctuations in temperature are expected, some days being quite mild, whilst showery days will often also be colder.

Sunday looks like being a very wet day with heavy rain across central and western areas. This may lead to localised flooding in prone areas, perhaps with some snow over northern hills. Drier in the southeast. Generally mild in the south, cooler with scattered wintry showers in the north. Very windy at times with gales or severe gales in the west. Tending to become drier on Monday, but still with showers and strong winds. It looks like it will continue unsettled through the following week and weekend with periods of heavy rain at times and strong winds, perhaps with gales or severe gales at times in the north and west.
