Not Sure This Is The Right Part Of The Forum To Post This But I Found This Most Suitable

Hello All,

I am currently looking to buy a weather station.

My Budget Is upto £150.

I only have a back yard and I am unsure wether that will affect what type of weather station I buy.

I need help though choosing a weather station to buy because I dont have a clue what are good ones for my budget or anything and I also wouldnt know how to set one up either.

Any advice or information will be greatly appreaciated :)

If you both have a search around on Net Weather, only a few days ago TM posted a very good reply to someone asking just the same question, re exposure, where to site etc.

sorry not sure which thread but I'm sure someone will pop the link in for you both.

Good options for <£150 are:

Lacrosse/Technoline WS2350:

http://www.weathershop.co.uk/shop/brands/technoline/technoline-ws2350-weather-station.html

Oregon WMR100N:

http://www.weathershop.co.uk/shop/brands/technoline/technoline-ws2350-weather-station.html

I had a WS2300 (same as the WS2350 except its serial connection only) for over 5 years and am still running it alongside my VP2 and its very accurate (less than a degree out most of the time).

I'm sorry if you don't understand that but it was an excellent explanation of the problems and how to overcome most of them I thought?

I can't comment on what you have, I use one of these http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=223254 and have done for 18 months.

With the only real problem being the sun screen around the thermometer not being big enough ( a problem with almost all stations bought without a Stevenson Screen) and therefore displaying temperatures higher than reality when the thermometer is not in shade, I've found it to be very good.

I did however change the software it came with to the excellent Cumulus, distributed by sandaysoft, the standard software is OK, but not great

you posted

I only have a back yard and I am unsure whether that will affect what type of weather station I buy.

This will cause you problems which I thought TM explained.

If you are unable to do anything about the reflective effect of walls etc then perhaps to put the station on your chimney but I doubt any are available at your budget that will do that.

In an enclosed area you will also have problems if the sensor includes a rainfall collector, wind speed and direction; neither is likely to give even a half decent reading I'm afraid.

sorry to pour cold water on your hopes but you do need I suspect to raise your budget to enable the kit to be on your chimney or at least on a pole fastened to one of the walls, to a reasonable height above the walls. That might be possible with your budget but I'm no expert on which model to choose at the price you quote.

Anyway I hope what I've posted does help and also that you are able to join those of us who enjoy reading our own weather data.

Probably no computer connection on that - may not matter too much, but it is a good thing to have and can be got for less than £100

You might look at La Crosse 2350 or WMR100 for about £100.

The WMR might all go on your chimney except raingauge you will need to access every few weeks

Even the cheaper ones will probably give you two or three years of service.

That might be difficult, I wouldnt have thought many high street stores sell weather stations, thier might be a few specialised places

In the High street, you really only have maplins then, it is very specialised.

Most of the online shops can be contacted by phone and would despatch on receipt of your cheque or whatever if using credit card online is a problem.

The well know ones like weather-shop are not going to con you in anyway.

you really are reducing your range of items by sticking to that. As 4wd has posted shops like the major weather shops are happy to take a cheque with the normal guarantees and it gives a much better choice. The other thing to be aware of is that Maplins have no knowledge of any item they sell, the specialist shop will give you back up if you have problems.

We dont send cheques or anything like that but we would be able to send cash by post only if there is no weather stations in my budget in high street stores which is suitable for the space I have  But if that happenned I would need someone like you John to give me a decent weather station for my budget with a good weather company.

I'm afraid I cannot help you anymore mate-use Maplins and hope it works and does not need telephone support with any problem. Why not send cheques?

Well I actually i suppose i could get my nana to send a cheque because she uses them but as I said I would want a company with a good reputation and a good weather station and which would be easy enough to set up for the space I have and I would also need examples of good weather stations for my budget from the site so I could show my parents
