Interesting statements coming from Icelandic meteo office.

2 senior geologists believe a significant eruption will occur this year under the Vatnajokull glacier... quite a bold statement to come out with.

As for activity there, well things are pretty lively with swarms of earthquakes still hitting the same area around Kistufell which is the location of grimsvotn.

Why is it always in the "Never let the facts get in the way of a good story - Daily Mail †

Not again! Icelandic volcano set to erupt dwarfing last year's devastation, warn scientists

Murphy's Law says if it's going to happen we will end up with a no fly zone over Europe during the peak holiday season - still at least those of us not going anywhere can look forward to some nice clear blue skys here and read the headlines about the flight disruption for travellers !

From the Icelandic Met Office's website:

"Presently, there are no signs of an imminent volcanic eruption in Iceland.... If signs of an eruption were apparent, IMO would issue a warning immediately."

From the Icelandic Met Office's website:

"Presently, there are no signs of an imminent volcanic eruption in Iceland.... If signs of an eruption were apparent, IMO would issue a warning immediately."

This was referring to speculation in various news media that an eruption was extremely likely from Bardurbunga volcano after a few series of earthquake swarms in the area.

Daily Mail of course was again in the forefront of 'doom-mongering' about a severe eruption with a 'screaming' headline -

Not again! Icelandic volcano set to erupt dwarfing last year's devastation, warn scientists

I wouldn't mind having a bet on the few choice words the Icelandic geologists have for this sensationalist newspaper!

 So sorry to previous posters. I wrote the above before realising this point had already been made. Teach me to read back in the thread before posting!!

It does look like there's steam rising up from the right hand side of the webcam towards the left doesn't it?

And something coming from the middle bottom too.

Maybe it's just been very wet. Eyja looking very quiet right now — good view.

Seems to be a bit more interest in Katla recently — tremors, runblings and quakes and stuff — so I thought we had better get this back to the front page.

Anyway, looks quiet and snowy right now.
