Etna has also been at it again. Haven't found any videos of it though and once again it went pop when I wasn't looking.

Yes El Hierro shaking and rolling quiet well. Also the depth is now reducing. http://earthquake-report.com/2011/09/25/el-hierro-canary-islands-spain-volcanic-risk-alert-increased-to-yellow/

A volcano erupted in eastern Indonesia, spewing ash as high 2 kilometres into the air, an official said. Residents were advised to stay farther than 2.5 kilometres from Mount Lokon in North Sulawesi province after the early morning eruption, said National Disaster Management Agency spokesman Sutopo Purwonuhroho. No evacuation was necessary, he said. The 1,578-metre volcano has erupted several times since January. It has been on high alert status since July when it began showing increased activity. Indonesia has about 500 volcanoes, 128 of them classified as active and 65 listed as dangerous.

Peruvian scientists have warned that Arequipa's Sabancaya Volcano is currently in a pre-eruptive stage. According to Domingo Ramos, head of volcano monitoring at Peru's Geological, Mining and Metallurgical Institute (Ingemmet), Sabancaya's activity has led the agency to issue a yellow alert. "We have already talked with local authorities so that they can warn the nearby population, about the volcano's status, and how to prepare before an eventual eruption," Ramos said according to the daily. Sabancaya, he said, is currently emitting large plumes of smoke, and is seeing between 300 and 500 seismic movements, Peruthisweek.com reported quoting Peru21. Fredy Apaza, a chemist at Ingemmet, said the signs of continuous gas release indicates that magma is rising to the surface, but said the agency was not yet able to estimate how much magma could be on the way. "That's why Ingemmet has installed volcanological equipment and telemetry in strategic points at Sabancaya, we expect results within 15 days," he said.

The civil protection department has declared a level of uncertainty because of seismic activity in the volcano Hekla in South Iceland as announced by the National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police and chief of police in Hvolsvollur shortly after 11 am this morning. The announcement states that the Icelandic Met Office informed the civil protection department about unusual seismic activity in Hekla. The Icelandic Met Office also raised the surveillance level of Hekla to yellow because of air traffic, which means that the volcano is showing unusual activity. The level of uncertainty means that the course of events, which in latter stages could lead to the health and safety of people, the environment and inhabited areas being compromised, will be followed closely. The level of uncertainty is declared to inform the parties who would help with evacuating areas near Hekla to be prepared and is part of the civil protection department's planning. It is the lowest of three levels. The National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police and chief of police in Hvolsvollur warn people against traveling to Hekla while the level of uncertainty is active. Hekla last erupted in 2000.

Funny this one as Helka normally doesn't give much in the way of the warning has very little seismic activity basically aseismic. So normally activity starts 30 to 80 minutes after the first tremors. So I wonder is this just the crust settling due pressures in the region or Helka for once giving us plenty of warning.

The Police in Hvolsvollur and the Civil Defense department have expressed concern over increased seismic activity around Hekla volcano in the past few days. Seven tremors have been measured in the last two weeks, a frequency which has never been matched since Hekla's previous eruption. According to geologists at the Icelandic Meteorological Office, the seven earthquakes were measured some 5 km from the top of the volcano and at a depth of 11 to 12 km. However, no magma movement has been measured. The volcano is being closely monitored at the moment by geologists who decided to alert authorities as Hekla eruption usually happen with very little warning, and the mountain itself is a popular hike among locals and tourists alike. The warning issued is the lowest out of three and is raised in order to initiate an appropriate and rapid emergency response in the case of an eruption. Internet users can monitor the activity around the volcano themselves with a live webcam of Hekla. Quite reassuringly, what looks like smoke at the top of the volcano is in fact just a cloud (at least for the moment).

El Hierro activity on the increase

..................

http://earthquake-re...ased-to-yellow/

2013-03-27 16:31 UTC

Spectacular earthquakes going on right now in the ocean to the west of El Hierro – A new strong earthquake (preliminary Magnitude 4.4) made chairs and ceiling lights moving and windows trembling. This last earthquake was also felt at the other islands.

Based on our earthquake experience, we expect that an M5 will be the absolute max. for volcanic earthquakes. In rare cases the Magnitude goes even higher but these are mostly volcanic explosions which nobody expect to happen + the shaking of every current earthquake is weakened by the sea.

We would advise people at El Hierro, to stay away from steep cliffs as rockfall can happen at any moment..............

also note that was 12km deep so getting more shallow these quakes

saw this happen there last year but this time the quakes are bigger

Description

The most violent earthquake since the volcanic eruptions of summer 2011 has rocked the island of El Hierro, leading regional authorities to declare a state of pre-emergency. Having said just days ago that a major tremor possibly endangering the population was 'unlikely', the latest quake - measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale - has made them rethink. Until now, quakes of up to 4.3 were said to be 'nothing to worry about' - other than the risk of rockfalls in tunnels which were being carefully monitored with a view to closing at the first hint of danger - given that they were said to be between 12 and 20 kilometres underground. A quake on the mainland in Lorca (Murcia) in May 2011 measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale turned the city to rubble and left nine dead, dozens injured and thousands homeless - but experts say the severity of it was largely due to the fact that it was only a kilometre underground, which heightened its intensity. Volcanologists from the National Geographic Institute will continue to monitor the situation. They believe another underwater eruption off the coast - this time near La Frontera rather than La Restinga, as in summer 2011 - may be on the cards.

An earthquake swarm has occurred in northern Iceland. The swarm was located on the Tjornes Fracture Zone between Grimsey and the mainland. In the 48 hours to 4th April 2013 (02:19 hr, local time) there were 813 earthquakes. 522 earthquakes were between magnitude 2-3, 86 greater than magnitude 3. The largest earthquake was magnitude 5.3. The transform fault has historically been the site of underwater eruptions. The most recent eruption was in 1868. This earthquake swarm may indicate an underwater eruption is occurring. The swarm is continuing.

Etna had an earlier rumble this April while the crisis at El Hierro seems to have ended for now.
