Informative article about giant volcano collapses and what happens afterwards with the magma finding a new path.

They have used the stunning Fogo volcano in Cabo Verde as an example. I visited the volcano in 2015 when the latest eruption was in its finishing stages.

I’d love to go back one day.

On from la Palma , Tenerife is in the spotlight with recent swarm and the tabloids are all over it scaremongering as usual :nonono:

The British tabloids are good for the UK tourism industry. They try to prevent Brits from going to: the Canaries, Iceland, Indonesia, US etc so they will hopefully stay here and holiday in Skegness or Rhyl.

It is funny when they say the island was rocked by X number of earthquakes. The largest one had a magnitude of 1.3!

BREAKING : Mt Agung, Bali erupting

Oh yes, it is a low level phreatic eruption. Let's see if it evolves to anything more serious.

Seismicity is low at the moment as often happens with phreatic eruptions.

Agung looks to have entered into an eruptive phase proper (i.e magmatic based on the summit glow now being observed).  Hopefully a full evac will be executed before it has the chance to turn violent.

Fortunately less chance of loss of life as its magmatic  pyroclastic flows aside

It has given plenty of warning so hopefully there won't be any loss of life.

Hard to see for the cloud but has the eruption got stronger as that plume looks to be going quite high?

Yes, scientists have warned a stronger and more explosive eruption could be imminent it already looks astounding.
