Well keeping out of valleys removes the risks pf lahaars and reduces the risk of pyroclastic flows

Scientists shocked to discover that Earth's mantle is moving at TEN TIMES the rate we all thought... Massive changes in tectonic plates can happen 'chaotically' .

A shocking discovery by scientists shows that the Earth's mantle is moving ten times faster than originally thought, The revelation, which has taken researchers by complete surprise, came after the first comprehensive survey of the Earth's mantle. In fact, it seems that the surface of the planet is literally "bobbing" up and down "like a yo-yo" on a million year scale.

This bizarre and dynamic concept means ten times more activity than geologists originally predicted. So what does it actually mean?
The findings may force a rethink of past models of ocean circulation and have an effect on predictions for climate change, since the mapping of the oceans is related to how quickly the sea floor is moving up and down. This means that the current climate change predictions could be brought into question, as their accuracy could be completely off.

So, the mantle may be moving at ten-times the expected rate, and this might alter (I don't know how, since things are as they are?) climate change predictions 'according to the Daily Mail'. But then, the Daily Mail is well-known for its constant disparaging of all those associated with genuine global climate-change prediction? So, could this be yet another wee ruse designed to give the likes of Nigel Lawson (an economist who clearly knows bugger-all about climate) and Anthony Watts (a conspiracy theorist) the tiniest bit of pseudo-credibility?:D

Nothing to this effect reported from yellowstone so I suspect news media exaggeration and misreporting.

Must admit I made no comment as it had the smell of an Express article

Apparently Etna's Bocca Nuova crater has been slightly filled with lava https://twitter.com/etnaboris?ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^author

I wonder how long it is before the crater opens up again.

This one could be interesting http://www.africanews.com/2016/08/03/cape-verde-evacuates-300-for-fears-of-volcanic-eruption/

Etna also could be twitching again.

So far this week, we have seen the most dangerous volcano in Mexico erupt, and three major volcanoes in Indonesia all erupted within the space of just 72 hours.  Mexico and Indonesia are both considered to be part of “the Ring of Fire”,

Interesting number of quakes at Katla http://en.vedur.is/earthquakes-and-volcanism/earthquakes/myrdalsjokull/

Probably means nothing but worth keeping an eye on it.

Been quiet since Monday evening

Found this interesting and the river is fed by Katla

Glacial water is flowing into Múlakvísl river, south of Mýrdalsjökull. Increased conductivity has been measured in the river and gas measurements in the area show high concentrations of sulfur dioxide and hydrogen sulfide. People are advised not to travel near the river, due to gas pollution. It is not uncommon for glacial water to flow into Múlakvísl, causing increased conductivity and gas pollution.

According to local reports, the level of the Bláfjallakvísl glacial river is unusually high. Bláfjallakvísl originates from the northern side of Mýrdalsjökull and people are advised to show caution when crossing the river.

Bárðarbunga now gets in on the act with a small series of quakes http://en.vedur.is/earthquakes-and-volcanism/earthquakes/vatnajokull/

Calm, sober reporting from the Mail there. :D

The IMO are more circumspect:

"Our overall assessment is that the summertime unrest, and the earthquake swarm on 29 August, are not necessarily precursors to an imminent volcanic eruption. Similar unrest has taken place at Katla several times since the 1950s without resulting in an explosive eruption. However, Katla is one of Iceland's most active volcanoes and the interval since the last eruption in 1918 is unusually long in relation to recent centuries."

Something to keep an eye on over the coming day'/weeks/months. If she goes it could be spectacular.

Definitely. It's overdue and is coupled with Eyjafjallajökull.

Bit of tenous link to be honest Katla is fairly active anyway so it's not surprising they sometimes erupt close together.
