Going to be interesting if Askja does erupt whether it produces lava which matches the type erupted by Bárðarbunga recently. The dyke extrusion from Bárðarbunga did reach Askja. Time will tell.

This could well be the end of the present eruption cycle in Iceland. Nar has been asleep for a while now and tremor isn't rising and neither is the ground uplifting.

While Nar continues to sleep Askja continues to twitch. Perhaps we will get a replacement eruption to watch.

That’s a great link. Been to Iceland 3 times and have been up close to Hekla

Nar maybe having another twitch a sudden increase in tremor similar ones that have proceeded earlier eruptions.

The eruption has started again but from what looks like a new fissure

There is many a speculation ATM but i think the lava coming out of the side of Nar is heading down old lava tubes then escaping through gaps in the tubes probably forced up by blocked tubes.

I'm going for a new fissure from the cone across to the new lava field.

Footage of the five new vents. The base could be a parasitic vent fed from Nar or just a new vent. Would love to see the inside of Nar too see if it's empty or not.

This photo maybe from today

Edit it seems that it was. So the vent at the base of nar is a parasitic vent.

Looking at facebook it looks like the main vent has shifted and is now under the north wall of the old crater. This is feeding a vent inside nar and the vent outside nar. I wouldn't be surprised if the wall collapsed that side of the volcano and a new structure is built.

So it's looking likely that these are not new vents just lava going down old tubes from Nar's crater side.

Kvika sem rennur undan gosgígnum eftir lokuðum rásum í Geldingadölum virðist hafa brotið sér leið upp á hraunyfirborðið á nokkrum stöðum. Órói í gosinu hefur aukist í dag eftir að hafa legið niðri í um viku.

Depends how you read it. I take it as the original vent was blocked so magma in the dyke has found new places to the surface. If that's the case new vents but still the same source. Time will tell.

Pity the weather has closed in as I wanted too see the state of the northern wall. Later videos showed the lava was coming the crack all the way to the top as the crater was filled by lava from the new vent under the Northern Wall. A few old side vents also came active as the lava rose.

Lot of incorrect chatter calling the new vents Hornitos which they aren't as they have no structure to them. Bit like when the eruption started an when they called them volcanos' when they were just spatter cones.

Example here

Can't see the back of Nar but so far the northern flank hasn't collapsed although lave is bursting through on most of it's length. The only new vent/fissure visible of the cams seems to have extended lengthways. It'll be interesting too see if the eurption shifts to one of these new vents or they simply seal shut when the present cycle finishes.

Another fissure seems to have opened. Probably explains the seismic plot.

@The PIT,there is no new fissure and nothing has changed from last night apart from now Nar seems to be pulsating on the eruptions again like it did at the back end of June and most of July...

Also i did a little now and then comparison on when Rag-Nar was first born to now,...the results are staggering.

Looks like some of the new vents have sealed up. Surprised that the north side of the cone didn't collapse with the vent underneath it.  Sadly the cams are now on the wrong side so dependant on what drone footage etc the public make.

Interesting that the uplift hasn't increased during this episode. It been sinking slowly since middle of March normally when the ground subsides the eruption comes to a close. Nar doesn't seem to like to play to the rules.
