I find it rather interesting, the lava lake that was round the first eruption, seems to have drained, where too. Is that the lava in the new fissure. If not, something else might be brewing.

Apparently part of the retaining wall collapsed and it drained off. Anyway Bob as they call after having a rest this morning and afternoon is beginning to perk back up as evening comes in. Seems to do that each evening so if the magma flow is pulsing the new fissure should get even more impressive.

It's building a very active cone now, looks like birth number two in this eruption, now awaiting a name. Bob is still erupting, but is rather benign compared to before. There a smaller something going on near the new cone, which may develop to.

The new fissure eruption is called Flo

the two in unison are called Bob and Flo

This is growing a cone quickly

from first when the fissure started to now...

They've now moved the camera on the new eruption, to the other side, we can watch the lava flowing down into the valley.

Landslides between craters

Rescue crews on duty at the eruption sites on the Reykjanes peninsula reported to the Meteorological Office's nature conservation expert from the first hour of the night that they had spotted what appears to be a landslide between the craters in Geldingadalur and a new eruption fissure north of them. It seems that the earth has sunk by up to a meter where it is most. Whether this is a harbinger of further changes in the volcanic eruption is difficult to say, but developments will be closely monitored.

Perhaps some pressure released.

Watch both eruptions together. Bob more active this morning than yesterday. Lava flow rate rumoured to be higher than at the original site.

The third vent is interesting. Suggests some kind of unzipping.

Which bit has dropped a meter.

Interesting the new fissure opened uphill they normally propagate downwards although not unheard off. It's also interesting that Bob is more active today which indicates an increase in supply of magma. I suspect there was an increase of magma supply which the lower section of the dyke couldn't accommodate so if forced a new exit via weaker rock further upstream. Ironically closer to the place where they originally expected the eruption to occur.

Is this system along a fault or are both fissures in one caldera.

Looks like lava from something happening between the two eruptions is heading towards Bob, on one of the cams.

Decided to read the news rather than watch the lava.

A new crack has formed

Clever viewers of the webcams noticed that around midnight a new eruption crack opened just northeast of the original eruption in Geldingadalur. The Meteorological Office's nature conservation expert confirmed this to the news agency right now. The new fissure appears at the site where rescue workers noticed a landslide.

From here.

Fissures forming from a dyke intrusion from depth. Clearly the eruptions sites aren't releasing enough pressure so the new fissures are forming.

Good call to get the public out of there.

There is a new webcam on this link, showing all 3 eruptions. In Icelandic though.

I thought it was open today, has that changed?

No idea but with new fissures opening I can't see it being allowed.

Anyway any volunteers to remove a web cam you're needed now. Side to side transport available.

Camera may still be some way away just zoomed in a bit.

That's what I think, as it has zoomed out a bit since yesterday.

Iceland bis a big eruption now, three different groupings of new cones, all multi vent., And still quite lively. I wonder what it does next.

I think one camera has been eaten it's time has stopped.

What happens next depends on the feed. If it's managing to eject through the all the events then nothing will much change. If the active events still can't relief the pressure more vents will open. If the pressure drops then the eruption will concentrate back to one vent most likely.

I think camera is ok, they just moved it to concentrate on last night's vents.
