When I was at Etna there wasn’t a hint of smoke. Bit unfair I thought. Was a very interesting tour though with a very knowledgeable guide.

I think the camera has moved back a bit after last night's activity, or not zoomed in as much, and it's snowing again in Iceland.

This is a video feed of the eruption from the other side

K100STREYMI.MBL.IS

I have read it might be classed as a shield volcano, and could carry on erupting for a long time

Snow and fog stopping any views at the moment. Noticed earlier that the main crater had shrunk qyuite a bit and the lower one had merged with the middle cone and was quickly catching it's companion. Actually it maybe larger as it's based further down the slope. Whether or not it forms a shield volcano only time will tell.

I know which the camera facing now it's facing roughly south.

I think the weather is going to be pretty grim over there in the next few days, bombing low pressure,  high winds, blizzards and possible sting jet

Loads of people up there again amazing how get out you'd think they'd go hard to get to cold and fire around a bit dangerous.

The two cones are now of equal size and may merge into one.

Just thought that i would share a couple of pics of the Iceland volcano from the first few days of the eruption up to now to compare the growth.

Wish don't know what happened last night, but the Iceland volcano sure looks different this morning.

Don't know how long it'll keep up for, but Iceland is interesting from a meteoritical point of view at the min, the steam/smoke is blowing in two different directions right now. Towards each other.

can snow put out the volcano

On a small scale no but the weight of glacier can stop a volcano from erupting. There was an increase in volcanic eruptions  when the ice sheets retreated the pressure on the earths mantle was released allowing magma to escape through fractures.

The combination of erosion and melting ice caps led to a massive increase in volcanic activity at the end of the last ice age, according to new research. As the climate warmed, the ice caps melted,

Interesting how the spatter cones have grown and collapsed as time went on. The second vent has moved location quite a bit from it's original place and where it played second fiddle.

That big lump of rock in the foreground must be part of the broken cone which floated there before becoming beached.
