Taal now producing lava fountains so Magma has reached the surface. Going to be interesting too see how this progress's.

Some news agencies had live feeds but they seem to have lost a bit of interest. The ones on the island are now probably buried or in the lake.

Looking at the graphs they are right very little warning before hand. It'll be interesting too see any reports in the  future on the speed that magma rose towards the surface.

One to watch. Things could get interesting over in Iceland with Blue Lagoon becoming no more if it did go. They had another 3+Mag earthquake today but the earthquake swarm has lessened over the last 24 hours so may not come to anything.

Wouldn't be an explosive eruption so would have little impact on the weather. But I love fissure eruptions they are so spectacular.

Opinion over at Volcano cafe is that it is most likely to be an effusive fissure eruption IF it does go, rather than something more disruptive beyond the local area. Airports on the Reykjanes peninsula  will no doubt close but problems for airtravel further afield are unlikely.

Swarm back in force 2 over 4 mag quakes last night, they were felt over quite a large area. Lots of fore and after shocks on the chart! Or has something gone wrong with the data. Chart looks crazy with all the quakes dotted about, you'd expect them to be more centralised. I'm slightly suspicious of it. Will see how it looks later on.

So far 4cm of uplift since the 20th Jan. Although current thinking is it will not erupt as volcanic tremors are absent. It is thought that the magma is at a depth of about 3 to 9km.

I'm really enjoying monitoring Þorbjörn just when you think things are settling down it goes a bit crazy!

Yep, i said blimey when i checked the IMO's web site this morning and saw the outbreak of measles! Apparently the very large quakes can cause problems with their seismic network, that seems intuitive, bit like distortion and clipping that occurs to speakers/mics if the volume is to loud.  The result is false EQs or erroneous locations that then have to get cleaned up once by being manually checked.  Assumption being the scattered ones will get scrubbed or correctly located to the peninsula.

Still ongoing but declining. Got this snippet from the web site

This evening at 18:58 an earthquake of M2.5 was detected near Kleifarvatn. Felt reports have been sent to IMO. Several earthquakes have been located in the area today, all below M2.0. Earthquakes are known in the area.

The seismic swarm that has been ongoing at Reykjanestá since February 15th is slowly declining. About 700 earthquakes have been detected in the area since then.

The IMO warns about cave excursions in the Eldvörp area on the Reykjanes Peninsula. Hazardous levels of CO2 and low levels of O2 were measured last week, in a cave close to a parking lot which is popular for hikers.

Seismic activity near Grindavík

Earthquake activity near Thorbjorn has significantly decreased in the last days. Uplift is no longer being observed, which is likely due to the halt of magma inflow. Indications show a minor subsidence from the middle of February but it is too early to interperate the data.

The swarm now seems to be dying down at long last.

After a period of rest since early 2020 its looking like the Reykjanes is stirring again with another earthquake swarm ongoing, the two talking-points being the 5.5 quake which was felt across the Peninsular and also in Reykjavik, the strongest recorded earthquake since 2003. As-well as outgassing around being observed around Grænavatn Lake.

Yup Kilauea has come back to life. The water lake at the summit has now been replaced by lava lake. Seems to have caught them off guard.
