No, the depths are too significant.. Jon's seismometer over at Hekla is picking the quakes up too, just had a flurry of them all centred towards the eastern side of the caldera. Certainly not suggesting anything is about to happen as we have to remember this has been the way of things for quite a while now.

Typical though Jon should take the weekend off Posted Image

I'd rather Katla waits till late spring for the eruption. Long days will give plenty of opportunities to enjoy the show in the webcams.

Katla Volcano: GPS and Earthquake-Meters Installed

On Wednesday September 14 staff members of the Icelandic Met Office and the Geological Institute of the University of Iceland took a helicopter ride to the top of Mýrdalsjökull Glacier, home of Katla Volcano. The current spike has continued to build for a good part of the afternoon and as can be seen from the IMO charts has also seen some earthquake activity

Scientists Concerned By Continued Eruptions At Alaskan Volcano

The two-month long, low-level eruptions occurring at a volcano in Alaska’s Aleutian Islands have volcanologists worried that there could be a larger eruption forthcoming, Yereth Rosen of Reuters reported on Friday.

The volcano causing concern is Cleveland Volcano (also known as Mount Cleveland), a 5,676-foot peak located less about 940 miles southwest of Anchorage...http://www.redorbit....laskan-volcano/

The status of the Mount Tambora volcano on the Indonesian island of Sumbawa has been raised to the second-highest alert status as its activity has been increasing since April, the Jakarta Globe reported on Friday. Residents who have spent most of their lives living on the slopes of the volcano remain unfazed despite the warnings from authorities and the rumblings they are increasingly feeling from underneath the earth, according to Syaifullah, the head of the Pekat subdistrict which lies on Tambora’s hillside. “The hundreds of families in the villages and hamlets that lay between 5 to 10 kilometers (3 to 6 miles) from the peak have not shown any panic and continue to conduct their daily activity as usual,â€

Perhaps they have seen previous eruptions which may have gone unnoticed. Tambora certainly seems to have erupted since the huge 1815 eruption.

Meanwhile Etna erupted again today apparently. Some pics here http://s40.photobucket.com/albums/e211/NoEnz/

Well its like waiting for a bus... its been quiet for the last 3-5 days and you look away for one second and Katla has another swarm.

Interesting that the current swarm is over the 1955 eruption site with a harmonic tremor only really showing up on the GOD sil, also there appears to be uplift too however the sources for this suggest it could be glacial changes due to it beginning a sustained refreeze. The size being quoted for the uplift varies quite a bit which does make it awkward to interoperate.

I go every November to the Canaries for a week or two and I am quite tempted to stay in western Tenerife this time so that I have a good view to the west in case an eruption occurs in El Hierro.

Earthquakes in Katla volcano, strong sulphur smell in Múlakvísl river before the earthquake happened

Posted on September 23, 2011 by Jón Frímann

This morning there has been some earthquake activity in Katla volcano. But it has also been reported in the news this morning that a really strong sulphur smell was found around 06:00 UTC on nearby farm to Múlakvísl river this morning. But this was before the earthquake did happen. I am not sure if this sulphur smell continues to be felt in the area close to Katla volcano. No changes in water hight has been detected in Múlakvísl glacier river.
