Thought some of you may be interested in this site: http://so2.gsfc.nasa.gov/omi_2004_now.php

The site tracks and monitors the various emissions from eruptions, ash, sulphur etc. Apologies if it's already been posted.

Ah, finally a figure for the amount of SO2 erupted by Nabro (read sometime earlier that it had erupted the largest amount of SO2 ever recorded by satellite). For comparison, Pinatubo (the last eruption to have any significant effect on global temperatures) erupted 17-20 million tons of SO2, which is 17-20 times greater than Nabro.

Iceland appears to have been rather active in recent months, with Grimsvotn erupting in May and glacial floods from Myrdalsjokull and Vatnajokull in the last week.

Pretty much every volcano behaves differently, some rumble away for years before erupting, others will go with little or no warning (Hekla for example). As Katla hasn't had a "proper" eruption for more than 90 years, we have no real idea of what the signs of an impending eruption are as there was no scientific monitoring back then. Could go off tomorrow, then again it might not go off for years. Very cliched but in this case, also very true.

On the other side of Iceland, Hamarinn is still experiencing occasional spikes of harmonic tremor. No major eruptions from Hamarinn for a little over 100 years, so it might be "its time".
