Very interesting again, i muust say that i would get quite concerned if Etna went as quiet as Vesuvius for 50 years or so, i'd expect a very big eruption.

As for volcanic activity in France, i can't see any major volcanic activity occuring over the next million years or so, though i suppose that some activity is possible.

I'm wondering about slope failure on Etna considering how the flank keeps on moving.

Has anyone noticed the activity at the volcano Bárðarbunga under the Vatnajökull Glacier in Iceland?

Doesn't seem to be much happening in all honesty.

Part 3 of Etna is now up http://scienceblogs.com/eruptions/

Well another Volcano goes pop this time Indonesia. Link here http://scienceblogs.com/eruptions/2010/08/new_eruption_at_sinabung_in_in.php

A fairly unknown Volcano and very little is known of it's past so what happens next is a learning curve for the local scientists.

Slightly concerned given how close it is to Toba.

Wouldn't worry about that too much.

Etna is also still coughing a bit http://www.ct.ingv.it/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=238&Itemid=370〈=en

Fantastic too look at isn't it. I agree with the eruptions bloke and the vent is being cleared. The next question is that it's 400 years since the last known eruption so could it be a biggy???

What they do need to do now is get some monitoring equipment in place quickly too see if the information gives them any information.

Ach need to check the dates more carefully. Anyway rumours of an Eruption in Africa either Nyamuragira or Nyiragongo however unconfirmed at the moment.

Looking rather busy in the volcanic world with quite a few volcano's that have been sleeping rumbling back to life. Details here http://bigthink.com/blogs/eruptions/

Well Sinabung has erupted again earlier today with the explosions the largest so far. Bad weather at the present prevents views of the volcano but ash clouds was estimated too reach up to 10,000ft.

However locals had started returning to their villages due to the volcano being quiet again previously. They've now fled back to the shelters.

Sinabung erupted again over the weekend the third set of eruptions. Seismic activity is increasing beneath the volcano so don't expect it to go to sleep any day soon.

Sinabung eruptions seem to getting stronger http://bigthink.com/blogs/eruptions/

There's also a link to a web cam so you never know you may see the big one.

Also a major surprise the Chaiten apparently erupted 320 years ago and 9000 years ago. http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.inglaner.com%2Fvolcan_chaiten.htm&sl=&tl=en

I've been keeping an eye on the quakes under Bardarbunga and Grimsvötn for a while. The quakes seem to be deep, whilst Katla's quakes are all near the surface.

Worth keeping an eye on I think.

Sinabung alert level has been dropped one level from four to three. Other volcano's twitching are Mayon and Taal. Taal can be a rather nasty volcano's with base surges crossing the crater lake. At the moment the alert level hasn't been raised at Taal but it's worth watching if it goes into a major eruption.

Those worried about super volcano's will now be able to watch the hot springs at the Norris geyser basin in Yellowstone. The temperatures from these springs will be fed into a live feed in a few weeks time.

Well Galeras in Colombia is getting ready to clear it's throat again and there could be an eruption in the near future. The eruption is likely to small due to the open vent i.e it hasn't got a huge plug to blow out of the way.

Indonesia as ever has a number of twitchy Volcano's. Sinabung is still rumbling away and Merapi is now on alert level III

Yes Merapi now seems to be erupting. Source http://bigthink.com/blogs/eruptions/ may be a biggie this one judging by the rapid expansion of the mountain.

And merapi is up and running. Three explosions and a eruption column too 5000ft. The explosions already bigger than anything during the last eruption in 2006. Source http://bigthink.com/blogs/eruptions/

Sadly the web cams are down at the moment.

No doubt BA will be flying through it.
