UK Outlook for Tuesday 23 Mar 2010 to Tuesday 6 Apr 2010:

Unsettled weather is likely to continue towards the end of the month for many parts. It will be quite wet and windy at times, particularly in western and northwestern parts of the UK. Temperatures are likely to remain close to normal for late March with less frost likely. As we go into the beginning of April it still looks rather unsettled for many parts with outbreaks rain at times but also some drier and brighter interludes. Temperatures will remain close to normal but with still some risk of night frost, especially in the north and sheltered inland parts.

UK Outlook for Saturday 27 Mar 2010 to Saturday 10 Apr 2010:

The end of March and early April is likely to remain changeable with temperatures near normal and precipitation likely to be around average for most areas. After the Easter weekend, there is a signal for temperatures to start to fall below normal away from the far north with an increased risk of frost, especially in rural areas. The most likely weather pattern is for many places to see a mixture of sunshine and showers, some perhaps wintry over high ground.

UK Outlook for Saturday 3 Apr 2010 to Saturday 17 Apr 2010:

The weather is likely to be unsettled at first but there are signs it may become more settled during the first couple of weeks of April. As a result, although it may be slightly wetter than average across many parts of the United Kingdom at first, many parts are likely to become drier by mid-month. Temperatures are likely to be close to seasonal averages in most parts, although it may be cold at first and there is a chance of frost, this mainly in the north.

UK Outlook for Monday 5 Apr 2010 to Monday 19 Apr 2010:

The weather is likely to be unsettled at first but there are signs it may become more settled at times during this period. Temperatures are likely to be close to or just below seasonal averages in most parts, although it may become cold at times and although the risk of frost will be mainly in the north, it may be more widespread at times. Rainfall may be higher than average across many parts of the United Kingdom at first, and there is a continuing risk of snow occasionally affecting higher parts of both Scotland and northern England. Western parts of the UK may become generally drier by midmonth.

The OED definition LS quotes

generally

adverb 1 in most cases. 2 without regard to particulars or exceptions. 3 widely.

equally I am sure that most Met forecasters are aware of what the word means-we always had an OED at our side when writing media releases!

UK Outlook for Saturday 10 Apr 2010 to Saturday 24 Apr 2010:

Although it currently looks likely that northern areas will be generally unsettled at the start of this period, on the whole we are currently expecting weather conditions to be close to what would normally occur at this time of year. Rainfall amounts are likely to be close to average, with perhaps slightly drier conditions occurring in some eastern areas. Both temperatures and sunshine amounts also look likely to be close to normal for April in most areas.
