Despite today's heavy rain, there are still some surving snow patches around here; however, it appears to be mainly where there were large accumulations or where the snow had been made into piles

The last small patches of undrifted snow are still hanging on this evening but I can't see them lasting until morning.

Plenty of drifts left under the walls and in hollows but most of these are less than 40cm deep.

Noticed late yesterday on the snow whats left it started freezing when air temps were at 4.1c there was even forming ice where there was still the ramaining old ice left, other puddles of water didn`t freeze until later last night.

0.2c min last night and 4.6c max and mostly sunny, any snow out of the sun won`t thaw on days like today still some frost left.

3.3c now and clear.

There was about 90% cover still at a depth for 18 inches in the North Tyne valley north of Bellingham today when I was at work for the forestry. Thaw has took it down from 4 foot t0 18 inches though.

Hardly the Cairngorms i know but duty bound to report in my anorak that:

On Monday 25th still fair few drifts in ditches and behind walls ~ 1 - 3 ft deep along side the A40 going West from A429 junction in Glos plus at top of Birdlip on A417.

Plus ~3ft deep x 30ft pile in a layby on A429 on N side of Stow on the Wold.

Also the Dog track at Swindon still has its big pile of snow too.

All originates from Wednesday 6th Jan with top ups a few times since.

Oh and who are Leeds Utd ? 3-0 thank you.

What kind of height are we talking about there ?

If we get this cold snap setting in, I wouldn't discount some places (below 1000 ft) getting in excess of 70 days continue snow cover ???

Snow patch in reading went

A40 is ~ 700 - 800 ft

A417 at Birdlip a reasonable stretch is > 900ft with highest ~ 960ft

Swindon dog track ~ 450ft.

By the way still patches/piles at Reading services yesterday!!

As might be expected, extensive snow still here on the Pentland hills in Lothian, Lomond hills in Fife and all the mountains inland from the coast between Dundee and Aberdeen.

Big piles of snow more or less at sea level in north Aberdeenshire.

Some of the stubborn snow patches took a bit of a hit this morning when temperatures hit 8c but it is now 3c and sheltered areas are now sparkling with a ground frost. Still several large areas of snow in fields with trees to the south giving shade and shelter from todays mild wind and behind north facing stone dykes as well. Suspect these areas will last a while yet as local forecast on here suggests 5 ice days from Friday and a potential top up of fresh snow especially Saturday and Sunday. Most of the hills round us above a 1000feet are still almost completely snow covered.

Just the remnants of drifts left under the stone walls here, most of them less than 30cm deep but some 80-100mts long.

Still a few remains of some of the larger snow piles by the Manchester velodrome.

I took a drive through Sholver and theres still quite hefty drifts of around 5 feet at the side Buckstones road (300m asl). I have some photos that were taken up there a few weeks back and the depth was about 9-10 feet in places. I'll post them on here when I figure out how!

It`s now the longest with snow/snowdrifts lying around I`ve recorded only made 41days from January21st to March 2nd 1996 so 41/42days not 56 like I said before I think.

42 days now since december 18th so looking like the longest since 1986 and we had th

cold N-ly 4 safe days, another somewhat milder 2/3 days but less wind.

Snowdrifts are still deep I was surprised, in one of the hollows out of the wind, wind will shift the snow if exposed high up like today.

And if this E-ly comes after a record will be set.

I`m glad theres not that amount of snow here.

I like to see a pic of the 11feet level snow, last time I saw a 14foot drift was in January 1982 let alone level snow if thats even possible,it would`ve drifted.
