What an absolute disgrace of a day, wet, dank, dark and miserable. To think what it was like this time last week. I hope all you people who wished for mild get soaked, in fact I hope you are soaked right now, and have a runny nose.

After a slight thaw yesterday afternoon and early evening it's back to a brief return of the arctic look.

Thick freezing fog after midnight and a f4 S/SE wind has once again coated everything in rime which is up to 55mm thick on trees and vegetation.

A short spell of quite heavy snow this morning between 0825 and 0850 gave another 1cm but by 0900 the snow turned to sleet, which is freezing on impact.

Currently thick fog and light-moderate sleet with a temp' of -0.4c after an overnight min' of -1.3c.

Mean wind speed is 18 mph S

Rainfall in 24hrs to 0900, 1.6 mm

Mean depth of undrifted snow is 23cm.

Heavy rain, cold, pretty unpleasant but at least the rain should clean the streets and wash away the sparse dirty ice and the plethora of dog crap everywhere....!!!!

Today's observations whislt out and about in my "64 Wheeler"

On way to work at 04:00 thick fog on Wrotham Hill (North Downs) , and low cloud/fog hanging over all tall buildings in London.

Rain shower around 11:00 in London.

Snow cover, around Medway virtually gone. London gone from Centre and up to about 8 miles South.

Still plenty of snow cover from Swanley to Sevenoaks especially around Eynsford and Otford.

Plenty of snow cover also over Wrotham and Bluebell Hills.

However although 3'C here, the air feels cooler, kind of sharper than the last few days.

End of a quick tour around SE London and part of Kent smile.gif

By recent standards that sounds positively balmy, OP . Don't know what the actual temperature is outside here up the hill in Basingstoke but doesn't feel as high as 6 deg C yet - will post my readings from home later.

Basingstoke I would have thought would be warmer, what with being quite an Urban town. Certainly the town centre (which looks quite stunning with those French/Italian style restaurants situated either side on the way to the cinema under the canopy)
