Carry on here, what comes next after todays snow?

Could be very foggy night tonight for some and thus the freezing fog could well last much of the day tomorrow and where it does we will see temps surpressed around 0C all day.

Amazingly Part 55 and with the Outlook still showing chances of Snow for

a, This Weekend Maybe - 30% Chance

b, An Easterly next week - 70% Chance

Then there is every likelyhood that Part 60 is going to be breached!

thanks Nick. so another case of "watch this space" eh? well heres hoping the possible PPN on saturday is either snow to top up the current lot. or rain to wash all the slush away and create a clean surface for the end of the months chances :)

It's all very complicated! The models all suggest a shortwave however this needs to move ese towards Central France, this will have the effect of drawing a se flow on its eastern flank with low dew points and drier air coming into the se, some of the models take the shortwave too far east before cutting it se, its the gfs which is most enthusiastic about keeping the shortwave further west.

Here you can see the shortwave developing where that T is to the sw, follow the charts forward and you can see it throwing up a se flow heading back towards the SE. On tonights output look out for how far west the block is, the further west earlier the better chance that the se could get more snow. I don't want to oversell this for fear of the snow police arresting me for raising false hopes!

especially if me and yamkin keep spamming :)

just been outside and the thaw of this mornings snow has started here in C London. but at home in SE London there is no thaw. so it will be treacherous underfoot tonight in the greater london areas.

Hi Paul,

Will happily miss out (again) on snow at the weekend, if it means an Easterly next week. Then again if this weekends snow potential speeds the transition up, then so be it :)

still light snow in Dover and the radar seems pretty quiet. what we have had today hasn't laid much, a dusting on some spots but that's all.

Theres no need to miss out, theres more chance of an easterly if the possible snow happens as that suggests the block being further west initially.

Cheers Nick. So if it does manage to snow this weekend, that's a bloody good sign we are in for a reload from the East?

Even if the snow doesn't turn up the other models still bring in the easterly just a bit later, there is still uncertainty as to what sort of easterly it might be, whether we can get some deeper low pressure over southern Europe to advect the colder upper air westwards. This is quite important otherwise it's likely to be a slack flow, still cold but less chance of snow showers. I think the important thing is that the models have trended towards a colder outlook again, it's a developing situation so time for changes.

So nice to see a bit of sunshine here in Maidstone this afternoon. The drive in was very picturesque with thick snow covering the woodland on the drive over the N Downs at lunchtime with temps still below freezing up there.

Interesting that sat has thrown up a slim chance of snow. As you say, depends on this SW and its track. I'll be watching this closely as well as developments throughout next week when some sort of reload looks almost inevitable.

Wasn't too bad today we got about 3 - 5 cm in places, it snowed from about 6am - 12.30 pm but the small stuff had a decent covering. Putting a pic up in the gallery ....

Edit, picture wont upload to gallery site cc_confused.gif

Temps in this region generally between 0-1C, probably will only be slowly dropping over the next few hours as whilst we lose the daylight we are slowly advecting less cold uppers into the region which will under a cloudy set-up slow the cooling down, though the cold looks pretty well embedded at the surface for a couple of days yet.

Should only see slow melting of the snow over the next few days, maybe a quicker thaw by the weekend, esp Sunday.

I notice a thaw happening here and with rain on its way possibly Sunday wash it all away. I did look at the type of precipitation on the charts for next week, I know its estimation but for the SE of the country looks to be white again from tuesday onwards ....

noticed that earlier and it seems to be moving due East...as if the Low was centred over Hemel Hempstead! Hope it continues to shunt east and intensify!

Quite an Incredible Radar Representation - Amazing

You have the Eastern Most precip moving SE To NW &

The Precip near Reading moving W To E

The difference in the Steering Winds must be only 20 Miles, C London must be the point where they are Colliding up there.

Run the radar it looks amazing zoomed In

its currently light snow here, lots of ups and downs in temp, up to 5C+ causing most of the snow to melt, now its falling fast.

best im hoping for is it will start to settle soon giving a new covering before it clears off & gets cold.

your about 10 mi SE of me so i hope that comes my way :]

could see outside but just felt there was something odd about the light change, looked outside to see light snow (decent size flakes) falling in West London. Wasnt expecting to see anymore after this mornings. Another bonus shower!
