Another 5cm of snow overnight to add to the 10cm or so remaining from last week. The snow's very fine but persistent - it's just stopped snowing here at work in Basingstoke. Temperature just above freezing after an overnight low of -0.3.

So far I've measured a total of 38cm for the season, which for me beats 1981/2 when I was living in Southampton and missed the heaviest of the snowfall - so it's probably the most I've seen since 1978/9.

The temp here has staggered up to +0.4C, from a low of -0.1C, dewpoint is currently -1.4C; still with the odd spot of light drizzle. This after a night of very very light drizzle freezing on impact with all horizontal surfaces and some vertical ones. The effect was much more pronounced as I drove into the higher SW suburbs of Sheffield. Trees completely iced over the snow they still held, one or two branches broken.

The unusual cold spell continues.

There are parts of the western outskirts of Sheffield into the Derbyshire Peak that have had snow lying well over 3 weeks now.

Continuous light snow since about 0845 and thick freezing fog since early this morning. The rime and glaze from a combination of freezing fog and drizzle is quite impressive above 300m.

Temp' is -1.6c and has moved just one tenth of a degree since 0700.

7 inches of level snow at 600 feet. 2 of the inches fell overnight.

Patchy melting snow at lowest levels. 6 foot drifts in some higher exposed parts with an avalanche blocking half of the carriage way of the higher part of the coastal road during yesterday morning which was cleared by a buldozer during the afternoon.

Overnight snow deposited an extra 5cm or so. Cold and grey, with light fine snow dying out during the morning. Currently overcast, 0.6 deg C, with a faster thaw than we've seen for several days underway. Today's maximum 1.3, last night's minimum -0.3.

Last night was windy with fine snow and drifting, massive drifts now can get caught out in a

field now and then you hit a load of drifts,so much snow about so deep in the fields.

Can`t say how there was exactly as it`s blown about, maybe another 3inches as a guess.

Snow today which did finally ease off, just back to very light odd grains, wind dropped off drifting earlier.

Max -0.0c but noticed it was trying to thaw middle part of the day wet on gates for eg.

Freezing again now and dull -0.7c this cold is very strong -2c upper air now.

It`ll start thawing friday this is going to be slow to go.

Generally overcast and foggy after the heavy snowfall last night. 6inches on the ground still with bigger drifts. A light rain shower this afternoon though didnt cause much thaw. Lighter winds today. This evening it has become foggy and murky. Temperatures around 1c
