Aye it's OK for you sitting next to the window and having proper streetlights haha.

I like the look of the ppn to the NE of work at the moment.

Ice day here today, max of -0.3º.

Currently -4.3º and I can see cloud to the east. I don't anticipate the temperature will fall much lower.

Temp dropped from -6.3 at 17.00 to -8.2 at 17.57 here!

Not confident of getting any snow here tonight, although was the same last night and I was proved very wrong!

The showers are starting to change direction now and head more Easterly with the snow just reaching Middlesbrough. Maybe another hour before I see anything but the shower activity looks good; up to 10cms possible somewhere I'd guess.

What does everyone else think?

It had better be, lol.

Well its taken all day for these very large CB s to push in from the east over cleveland north yorks; started about one o clock and its taken all this time to develop and finally its arrived ;dont forget the longer it takes to arrive the longer it takes to leave ,this mass of very heavy CBs come across from scandinavia starting life as a very cold pool of air minus 20s pushing out from there and crossing the north sea and the temperature contrast could not be greater @ this is more like lake effect snow in the states and certainly the intensity is there.

Quite a high risk of thundersnow with these showers and inches of snow look likely rather than; cms think of it like a box of fireworks because these contrasts dont mix well and i would not be surprised to see these big showers lasting until tomorrow ,weather warnings will no doubt be issued as the beeb plays catch up ,though to be fair they did suggest increased showewr activity have fun!!!!!! ;):D  ;)

 I saw that "normally the winds come from the southwest in winter bringing us mild weather, but this winter they are coming from the northeast which brings us cold weather"

That clears that mystery up then.

OON is down to -13.1

the showers out to sea look like gaining intensity and are coming in more from an easterly direction now.

Based on the 12z the snowfall tomorrow should be centred further North than what the TV forecast showed I think. Will the forecast be changed before it goes out at 10:30? Will be interesting to see if any changes are made.

Did anyone else see the amateur meteorologist they had on Look North? He had the GFS charts on his screen in the background and you could tell by the time buttons above it was Netweather.

It was the man who runs this site...

http://www.penrithweatherstation.com/

Anyway the showers are looking very interesting, particularly that line which is intensifying.

Up until lunchtime I wasn't expecting anything tonight, but now I'm quite hopeful of at least another inch or two.

The line has just intensified further on the 17:15 radar.
