Potentially a lot of prolonged snow coming our way if the north east to south west wind keeps up.

Looking like anywhere between Newcastle and Hexham could get that big clump of snow currently over the sea! Lets hope so anyway!

anychance of that reaching us NL

Observing the latest infa-red satellite images suggests so, certainly seem to be intensifying, probably has a lot to do with the lapse rates over the NE part of the North sea, with relatively warm seas and the encroaching lower upper temperatures. I havent the latest 500hpa's at the moment but 850's at -10 to -12 sure to cause surface convection.

Thats because you need to invest in NW 5min radar... you know it makes sense...!!! is such a large mass it will hit much of N tyneside S tyneside into Sunderland .

Heavy showers and longer spells of snow heading for us...

post-3392-12627313992652_thumb.jpg

I would guess many of us will easily have an extra 2-5cm by morning, more for some.

BBC forecast just showed plenty of showers tomorrow, especially afternoon. Also we got a mention on Thursday for more heavy snow blowing around in the wind giving nasty conditions.

Just gets better and better!

I think we might get a bit more than what we bargained for tonight. BBC forecast looked good for us for Thursday!

Had between 2 and 3cm fresh snow tonight, so may be back up to 9 or 10cm cover (I haven't measured), and there is far more in other parts of town.

thanks NL - I'll be keeping my fingers crossed, just to note there is quite a strong wind picking up now over the last 10 minutes or so.

Definitely got more than expected so far, more or less the same as what Paul has reported above. Definitely looks interesting for later in the week, sod's law states we'll probably miss out on anything else too major tonight though.

" stop there atlantic this is my country" says the greenland high, as he casts blizzards down through Whitburn and all surrounding areas :)

Thats my ramp for the night over and done with, i cna sleep at ease now... with on eye open on the window....

Infact i can sense a top gear moment there... "Some say he wets himself when it snows outside... And that he keeps one eye open at night to keep an eye on the lampost... all we know is hes called the stig!!!!"

Middlesbrough, I'm about 6 miles from the coast, near Redcar. So frustrating unless things cool down soon, I cannot see us seeing any snow soon.

I would be very surprised if that hasn't produced thunder snow around Newcastle in the last few minutes.

Really intense shower on the radar, maybe even more so than the storm that passed SE of here earlier.

EDIT: Tyne Bridge webcam just went really fuzzy and cut off for a couple of seconds, never seen that happen before, must be lightning close by.
