seriously heavy here now across all of the Wirral.

New brighton is seriously heavy judging by the webcam, and also in West Kirby it is really piling up now.

Here it's approaching 3cm

edit: wow there are some seriously massive flakes, bigger than 50p pieces!

The thing that helped you lot get the deep snow was the incessant showers before the frontal event, the winds weren't northerly enough to get them at an angle where they were affecting this far south in the region. Has been a similar story for the past couple of weeks. Very frustrating for me but good news for those further north :)

Not too sure about Congleton and Sandbach, I expect Congleton may have done OK

For me, this spell has been nowhere near as exceptional as 7/8th Feb 2007. That was a marginal situation but as that front from the south pushed up it brought snow so heavy that it literally shocked me. Ended up with about 6 inches before it melted away. I got starnded for 3 hours on a bus back from Stoke, will never forget it. The front never made it to Manchester :)

Anyway, will try and upload some pics in a min to show how sparse the snow is here

Aaron

Finally stopped here on the Fylde coast about 12:30 after 5 and a half hours non stop snow, probaby had about 6 inch snow, but only 3 inch depth due to undermelt. Temp 0.4 at the mo, just had a look North up the coast and can see blue sky from east to west, so think that is probably it for the Fylde today, no doubt when the clear sky's arrive the temperature will plummet.

Your not the only one. I did get to work, only to be met by a car park that was practically deserted. Then I met a colleague coming out and she said the place was closing at 1pm. Only 3 people had turned up on my team. All in all I think a lot of people would have probably either given up and turned back, or not tried at all.

What an amazing snowy day, and from all accounts it looks to be a widespread event for the North West. Obviously some places have only seen a few cm's, but at least it's not just been places north east of Greater Manchester this time
