Kold, I like that post earlier suggesting the snow could turn heavier for Suffolk/Essex before it clears :wallbash:

Bring on the 12z, I'm expecting an upgrade...

PS, off topic, but Kold is there anyway I can change my username?

Its a real tough one to call LS thats for sure, its rather all or nothing I suspect for us...we either get a dusting from the weak first band and decaying second coming through, or we see the front power-up right over us and probably 5-10cms followed by a small top up from the second system...

FWIW the ECM 0z suggests the front will pep up a little sooner and whilst one of the wettest runs for London on its ensembles they do suggest 3-5cms being possible in London, so you can see 3-5hrs difference in timings is the difference between nearly nothing and a pretty heavy spell of snow for some of us, esp close to London...any bit further east and the risk increases for heavy snow.

Well it's going to be very interesting to see what the next update is from the Met O. I can't really see what's going on, the posts on here are also very mixed too. It just seems very messy.

Can anyone clear up my thoughts? I've heard of snow confined to out East but also of disruptive conditions throughout. Then heard about downgrades etc. Just if someone can explain the situation for me.

Thanks...

Where has the Snow Gone on that Forecast :wallbash::):)

Seems the UKMO Maybe siding with the GFS After all Darren!

Good call if that happens Mate

I think Kold has said it all:

I reckon:

  1. Snow risk chart closest to the time you are actually at
  2. Radar
  3. Lampposts

Yeah, does look decidedly dodgy for Essex & Suffolk & Norfolk I must admit. :wallbash:

At this rate only Kent & Sussex look set to get a covering.

Simple case of radar watching I think. Only that has the answer.

SE County councils now getting advice on making arrangements from the MetO, as their contingency systems kick into gear:

After a fine but cold day today, there is some snow expected to spread into the region during Tuesday. There is some uncertainty about the detailed timings and amounts at this stage but this is how it looks at the moment.

We can expect to see some snow showers spreading into the northwest of the region from early on Tuesday morning and these will spread southeast across ll parts during the day. As we go into the afternoon, the band of showers is may intensify giving some heavy showers through the afternoon and evening, more particularly across Hants, the Sussexes, Surrey and Kent. As I say, a lot of uncertainty even at this stage about timings and amounts but we probably need to be prepared for 2-5 cm across large parts of the region by Wednesday morning, especially those southermost counties with a risk of 10cm on higher ground.

The cold weather with ice risks is set to continue through the rest of the week with a further risk of more snow later in the week - although that, at the moment, seems to focus more on the eastern counties of the region - but I'll update you on that later. I'll try to update you on tomorrow's situation as early as possible tomorrow morning but call me or email me if you have any queries

It's failed to get above freezing here today, top temp -0.7c and currently -1.2c and falling quite sharply.

I'm hoping to 12z GFS, ECM and METO can give us a nice easterly to look forward to later this week!

Midday forecast though. And he did mention 'several weeks of interesting weather' at the end... :)

Blimey - that eradicates any snowfall at all tomorrow for EA and South-east. Looks like the only chance we may get is when the second band comes through. So we've gone from a Tuesday snow-fest to a Tuesday no-fest. Typical!

Iam not far from the Essex/suffolk border. beeen sunny all day ,local station showes +2 at the moment, but the frost is still on the roofs that the sun did not reach. I dont trust the radar, like I have said before. the other day it showed very blue over me and did not get a single drop.

Certainly needed.

This is fast turning into a disaster for tomorrow for 90% of our region, going on the lunchtime beeb maps.

Well I don't mind snow but if it rains we'll be in the same situation as we were before Christmas eve. A 1996 style ice rink. And that's something I don't want to have to put up with again.

Either way, whatever falls from the sky will end up frozen!

12z gFS much closer to what I'd imagine the 0z ECM looked like, as the 0z ECM gave london 10cms worth of snow...

Much faster development of the front...from one extreme to the other...

ps, Paul, have a look again :drinks:

So hands up all of you who will have forgotten what they are posting in here, when they are playing snow angels, sledging and having snowball fights throughout this week? :drinks:

The latest NAE precip charts show a heavy pulse of snow moving south into the west country & central southern england, but a gaping snowless zone over the SE and EA!
