Hmm just looked out the window and we have a shallow layer of freezing fog here. A thin layer of rime too. Perhaps it is keeping the temperature up a bit? Or maybe it's just Cheltenham's urban heat island.

I dont think so my friend

Temperature reading ive got was -9c

Now up to the dizzy heights of -8

Got down too -8.1C overnight but fog formed and temp rose to -5.1C.

I watched the BBC forecast this morning though with dismay - the snow has surprise surprise turned back to a rain forecast but what baffles me is the temps they were showing -4/5C - how can it rain with the temp so low - answers please??

Good Morning, peeps.

Have just got in from work.

Pavements are totally vile with ice. I am terrified of falling over and breaking a bone (again). :)

At Filton (couple of miles from here), temperature at 8 o'clock was -7.5 and visibility was 0.1km. (don't know what that is in yards, but ya can't see very far ahead!)

Apologies to WIB for my disgusting outburst yesterday. :)

Not sure which station that it using for our local readings, Yahoo says there are weather stations in Cheltenham, Stroud, Badgeworth etc.. but I'm doubtful. AFAIK our nearest automated one is Staverton Private and I've never come across one in either of those places.

GFS 06Z again has quite a bit of snow for Devon, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire etc Tues/wed/thur.

All starting in 24 hrs so not long at all now (only 12 hrs so until we can starting looking at the front as it moves down the country !. ).

I'd post up the snow charts for tues/wed/thur but tbh there are too many of them.

The NAE will be interesting again in the next hr to see if the METO's own model has anything decent for Tuesday and Tuesday night still.

My temperature guage read -5 this morning when I woke up, the coldest I have ever seen it down here in the tropics. Perishingly cold.

This cold spell just keeps on going on and shows no signs of ending. Plenty of fun and games await us beofre this incredible spell finally comes to an end. Happy days...

Looks like a marginal event for us judging by the latest outputs.

Would that be the same NAE showing rain? :unknw:

NAE was showing rain only for one chart. I think it's simply a processing error that there's no snow on the chart. The rest is an upgrade.

I think the main event now could quite possible be the front moving down from the North..

The East doesnt look that interesting now as it did before...

Maybe we will get lucky with the Northern cf

SNOW widely across the SW on this chart 36 hours away.

10010512_0406.gif

+42 looks even better!

10010600_0406.gif

An upgrade from the 0Z and would leave a couple of cms of snow in Gloucestershire.

48Z will be very similar IMO, I was just about to post those, but got beaten to it.

So good agreement from METO short term meso forecast and GFS for maybe some decent if not monsterous snow for Tues/Wed maybe thurs.

Snow fall accumulations by the METO over just the next 48 hrs.

Not bad at all for a starter and a reasonable chance it might be upgraded a bit, almost enough to warrant an advisory weather warning of 5cm or more of snow.

I reckon there will be about 3cm of snow in Cheltenham by tomorrow evening.

Now let's wait and see :drinks:

Iceberg, how early is that graphic? There seems to be a pesky 1 right on top of where I live!

That said, its a glorious day today, when I left there was a mini ice pack where the water was running down the road... now 3 inches thick and growing. Looks pretty impressive (more so that its just to the side of the road and passable... unless you fly around the corner whistling.gif )

Coldest night of the winter so far last night/this morning as it got down to -3c exact, -0.9c currently with clear skies

Hopefully colder temps to come with maybe if we're lucky some snow.
