we still have sleet, but with a larger sprinkling of snow. Not enough to settle

Just as the front arrived the temp rose to 1.9c, the temp is slowly dropping, now at 1.7c with a dew point of 0.2c. So maybe the cold air is finally undercutting the front?

Over at Golcar. Still sleet, but the flakes are more noticeable now.

Would be nice to have another covering, but unsure if it will happen.

Unfortunately, my weather station temp indicator got wet in the summer and is stuffed, so I can't track temps or DPs.

Golcar - you're only a a mile down the road from me, you sure you're not getting snow ? (it's starting to settle here now, where there wasn't already lying snow from last week of course !)

Extremely wet snow falling here, quite light as well, but falling fast.

Still dry here but the temp has gone up 0.2 deg to 4.6 deg C in the last half an hour and the Dew Point has also risen from 0.0 to 0.3 deg C.

Raintoday shows rain to our south and sleet to the SW, dunno if it is going to progress this far. Interestingly earlier on today you could see the showers in the N Sea being driven this way in an easterly wind, now this is happening further North, around Newcastle: all movement of precipitation in this area is now from West to East, although at ground level the wind is still easterly.

Will Leeds get a covering tonight?

No one knows, and that is a honest answer, there is a high chance of something wintry falling from the sky but whether it will be 100% snow or sleet I can't say.

Its definatly sleet at your end. Ive just come down Derbyshire lane and there was ice in some of the drops on the windscreen. There is hope yet.

The 12z ecm is a spectacular run - were it to verify (and that's a humongous if) then there would be substantive convectional snowfall and some potentially frigid night-time minima in rural areas over snowfields. Ensembles should be interesting.

Pits comments about the patchiness of convective snowfall is a well made point, and although North Sea SSTs are still good for convection, the last weeks low temps have moderated the high ssts a bit, though still warm enough to make convective snowfall marginal in coastal areas until fairly late on thursday, by which time dews and temps should be right side of marginal even on the coast.

Still sleet here, but it seems to be on the borderline of wet snow, temp currently 1.3°C, it's only dropped .1 of a degree in the last hour grrrr... lol

About 10 mins after I posted, I looked out and it was just snow. A bit has settled on car windscreens only (not much though) and it now looks like sleet again, and light at that. Seounds like the view towards Scape will be a true winter scene again then in the morning?

Am off soon, wont be online for rest of night.

Signs are encouraging, temp is 1.5c falling steadily, was 1.9c when the front arrived, dew point is 0.3c.

Very wet snow still falling, a little closer to moderate.

Really trying to snow here. A mixture of rain and large snowflakes blowing in the wind. During the last half hour there has been an increasing bias on snowflakes rather than rain (albeit wet snow) so hopefully we can get full on snow within the next hour :whistling:

Dew points are shooting up here, which is to be expected, as long as the temps are dropping I don't mind.

Yeah temp got to 0.9 and dp to 0 then it stopped and temp went up to 1.6 and dp went up to 0.6.

I guess it will drop soon.

Sleet here, we did have snow for about 10mins.

Another local lad, Golcar!

Slawit here.

It doesn't seem to know whether it wants to sleet or snow at present, seems to be switching from one to the other every ten mins

Just been reading through the model output discussion and there was a lot of hype over the latest ecm run. Is this run even better than the gfs 12z for our part of the world as I thought that brought a fair bit of snow and cold for us. Would love to know what anyone else thinks of this.
