Chilly with a white frost. Currently +1.6c.

It's been a proper winter month down here. My mean is running at 3.4c with mean maximum being particularly low. I should think my mean Max will be more then 2c below normal while minima perhaps not dropping away or even rising by months end.

January this year had the lowest mean max of 5.6c. Should beat that.

Just about 0C at Watford and a lovely clear night - it will be interesting to see what the next couple of days bring - apparently we are in the betwixt and between area - I suspect that if the precipitation starts off as snow and it falls heavy enough it will be sufficient to drop the freezing level to ground, hence it should start to settle - we will see.

The other interesting thing is that during the last snow episode many of the main roads in Herts did not appear to have been salted, however on the last couple of nights the gritters appear to have been working overtime.

I wonder if they have brought out a health and safety rule which forbids them from gritting when the roads are actually icy or snow covered!

Cool and moderate rain and 3.9c here nr Eastleigh.

Looking at various weathercams over the southern half of the country, this rain seems to want to stay falling as rain, even in the forecasted areas Wales/Midlands etc!!

A min of 0.1c but with thick freezing fog all night which then gave a power cut this morning, nearly

1 inch of rime/ice of the wires and trees higher up  which has now blown off in the fresh/strong east wind.

Also woke to a dusting of snow which I didn`t expect, been snowing on and off all morning but not that heavy moderate now, slight patchy covering in places.
