I cant say but whatt I can say is what keeps many people interested in the cold is the lack of it. If we start getting month after month of it then it gets tiring after a while!

Was apprently -18c in Braemar last night. Coldest temperature of the year.

I think it was the -23.3C recorded at Caldecott on 13th January 1987.

Not Caldicot in South Wales surely? I know it was cold in that part of the woods in 1987 but not *that* cold. Besides that's right on the coast so would likely have been even colder inland.

I'd be surprised if there wasn't a -20 in Cumbria or Northumberland in Dec 1995; it hit -20 in Glasgow IIRC. Also what about Feb 1991 or 1996/7; they had pretty impressive cold snaps.

February 1991 only had a low of -16.0c which was in North Yorks. -15C was the low for January 1997 at Shepshed.
