The start of a potentially very interesting week.

Mostly cloudy with a light WNW breeze and 1.6c here.

I haven't discussed or studied weather in a while (I got bitten by the cycling bug), but now that ice has came along and stopped me, I want to know what's going on

I've looked at the jet stream forecast, and it looks like starting tonight and tomorrow we will be under a ridge, what could this lead to? Will the ice go away? :)

Sorry if my terminology or understanding isn't correct, I haven't studied weather in a while.

Cheers,

Sam Kennedy

Checking the obs around Europe and it seems that with the exception of the area we know as "Lapland", where it

is still -18C; much of Europe including the east and Moscow seems to have become positively balmy with temps at Moscow about freezing point.

Still early in the season but it does not bode well for a nice Scandi High with Easterlies. If it continues like this I will have to ammend my CET prediction for Jan. The charts for southern England do not hold out much hope either in the 384 hours. After such a promising start as well. :(

-9.4

That means I've seen two -7's, one -12c and now -9c all in last few weeks. Inbetween them, numerous -2's or 3's. Looking like -12c may come under attack again soon :cold:

Cooler last night than I was expecting, seemingly dropped to -0.6c! After the 7-8c of the past few days today is a lot cooler. Currently lots of sun but barely 1c yet, currently 0.8c

A dry morning with sunny intervals and patchy stcu. Just scraped an air frost in the back garden with a min' of -0.1c but just missed one at the site a bit higher up with a min' of 0.3c.

Patchy snow lying but only about 20% cover overall, even though my garden and the surrounding area is still 80% covered.

Clawed its way up to -0.9C now, and as I drove to Appleby and beyond this morning, it's clear that this part of Cumbria, over to the Lakes, still has 100% cover...within reason.
