Yesterday:

A much less cold start to the day than recently, after an initial low of –0.3c and –4.9c on the grass last night, the temperature rose to 4.9c during the early hours. At observation, all snow melted, though the ground is still frozen hard. A bright and mainly sunny day followed, considerably milder than recent days with the temperature reaching 6.9c. The temperature fell low enough after dusk allowing for a ground frost. Cloud increased by mid evening and the frost lifted. A few light rain showers followed.

Still 3" of snow lying everywhere, but it's been above freezing since late on Christmas day, and is currently 0.8C.

Most of the snow in my rain gauge has now melted and dripped through, and it currently reads 8.8mm, which doesn't seem to equate to the 7" we had lying.

Looking at the latest data this morning, there is a definate undercut of colder air taking place across the NW of England at the moment. Anyone reporting wet snowfall i that region ??? Looking good for a moderate frost tonight as well. Cat and Fiddle web cam shows snow falling now !!!

Persistent sleet or wet snow here all morning but with the temp' between 1 and 2c it's just too warm to settle.

I'm hoping the showers last into the evening as the temperature falls and the snow cover, which will almost certainly be less than 50% by the end of the day, will be renewed in time for the frost forecast tonight.

Areas a few miles further north and above 400m or so already have a fresh cover of snow.

Clear/ sunny intervals today, a few light showers. Ground frost last night. A keen west breeze and it felt chilly.

In spite of 2 days reaching above 6c now there was surprisingly still some ice on the path around the local river this afternoon- yesterday it was a very dicey icy walk with the dog!
