At Watford we have freezing fog - vis about 500 metres and temp approx -1.5C.

As an aside, is the long range weather forecast for the rest of the winter ready yet. I suspect that you may have been rather busy lately what with a very borderline weather situation but I would like to see your thoughts.

I have an interest inasmuch as I am planning to drive to the South of France in Mid Feb, via the A75 through the Massif.

I expect the higher parts will look very pretty but hoping the French will keep the roads open.

If it is mild there may not be any snow at all but if we get a full blooded easterly temps could drop to a -20C or lower.

You are experiencing rain because of an inversion Snowfan. Over the south the air is now warmer at 850hpa, around 0 to +2c.

The air at the surface is still cold, this often happens during a transition from cold to less cold.

Black ice about 2mm thick on everything. Roads are closed in many places. I have a gravel drive which is smooth with ice. The term ice rink is over used but this is what it is like.

When I left the house at 8.00 it was -5.0 deg C and mainly cloudy. Last night's minimum of -5.6 was the lowest since January and the third lowest recorded since I moved to Reading in 2002 (still haven't beaten January 2003's low of -6.4 yet).

Some beautiful frost on the car windows first thing this morning (see picture). It seemed a shame to scrape it off...

Slightly different to the past few mornings in that the sky is covered in thickening high cloud which is making the sunshine very hazy.

A cold, crisp and brightish day here in Shawlands on the south side of Glasgow.

Currently 0.3C. Overnight low of -3.8C (coldest of the winter so far and pretty good, considering that Shawlands appears to be a veritable heat island!).

4 inches (10cm) of level snow lying and it's going nowhere - a veritable Winter Wonderland outside!
