It's so beautiful here this morning. Lying snow, hoar frost on the trees, sunshine just picking out the details through the lingering frozen mist - a real Christmas card scene.

Really lifts the spirits. Can't imagine why anyone would want it to warm up myself.

Such a beautiful drive into work this morning

Snow everywhere, glistening on trees and a temp of -5.5.

Really is stunning out there a true christmas card scene.

Pretty much everything you can ask for pushing into the southern counties. RAIN, SLEET, FREEZING RAIN AND SNOW.

What will this be once it hits the home counties?? Do we get a re-run of Monday? Or will it be rain and melt all the snow?

Well I said this on Monday and I'm going to say it again - this time I really can't see how it can be anything but rain. By 1500 the temp will be around 0/1c and uppers of around -1 will not be cold enough for snow.

It's a shame and I just hope the rain doesn't wash away too much of the snow.

The rain won't melt any snow really at all. It happened many times in 79 where we had 3 or 4 days above 5c and only falling close to freezing at night and the snow more or less remained until February from late December. Not excessive falls about the same as we have now.

I find it hard to believe it is currently -9c in Bournemouth! There's some precipitation around that area now, maybe that's an out of time reading.

We've had snow lying on the ground since Thursday Evening. OK, we may not have had the vast amounts of snow that we had on the 2nd/3rd Feb, but believe me, this cold spell is a lot more potent. Fingers crossed the snow is still on the ground here Christmas Day

Today is the last day of real cold conditions for a little while, we are going to start importing less cold soon as the battlegrounds are drawn between cold and mild which will possibly see some huge falls further north. I suspect we will eventually get in on the act but may not be till towards the back end of the year...till then probably quite a bit of rain!

Absolute nightmare on the roads of Sussex with local radio reporting the busiest morning period of accidents ever. The main A27 road shut completely from Polegate to Falmer in both directions (never happened before) A26 shut along great chunks of it's length. I took a tortuous route through Uckfield + Haywards Heath and passed a number of vehicles in ditches. All sorts of train cancellations, too many to mention.

Currently between -2 DgC and - 1 Dgc and raining with black ice everywhere. If you've got to go out - don't! :help:

Absolute chaos on rural roads in E Sussex and SW Kent where rain showers drifting in from the south coast are falling on surfaces which are below freezing, people at work coming in from E Sussex talking of vehicles skiding everywhere and ending up in ditches.

Can someone please tell me what the roads are like around Lamberhurst (A21 etc). In particular Bewl Water area (Bewlbridge Lane etc), as taking the nipper to Lapland UK at 16:30 today. Thanks

Had this all staff email at work:

I have just received a message advising that the road conditions in the eastern area of the borough (Tunbridge Wells), A21, Goudhurst, etc, are horrendous with some roads closed and are best avoided.

The roads might improve this afternoon though, if a thaw sets in

Guest North Sea Snow Convection

It is/has been very icy out there. The showers moving north have effectively made a freezing rain event this morning!
