Some rain falling from the sky now. sad.gif

We still have a white covering of snow/graupel everywhere though. It's really doing its best to hang on today, which is good.

Impressive display of "thundery wintry showers" over north-west England over the last three days by the look of some of the posts on here. I had an inkling that there might be the odd clap of thunder here and there but didn't expect thunder to be as widespread as it has been.

Bar humbug hopefully more coming mate.

Heavy hail now!

There seems to be plenty energy left in the sky for the activity to continue this afternoon. When I had a clearer spell earlier, I saw an impressive anvil to the north of me!

However, the latest bbc24 forecast

showed our streamer running out of life by 3pm and then the interest transfer to Cumbria through the night!

Heavy hail now!

Karyo

wow hopefully my extra 100m will keep it as snow but it does seem to becoming more and more marginal!

I think it's encouragin that you're having hail rather than rain on the coast. Are the showers still heavy where you are Stephen?

As the wind veers more to the west I should be getting what you are getting for the next few hours.

Well they never saw that coming eh, i woke up this morning to see a new fresh coat of snow, looked at the radar and thought mmmm going to be a nice day today really :) Went to town and well an 30 minute drive took me near an hour and half with wide snow cover and its all beautiful. We have had sleet/snow/hail (size of golf balls) and now my pond is re-freezing and showers are rolling in.

This is Haydock (near wigan)

There is a bit of melting here but I should keep most of the snow on the ground till it freezes tonight! I don't think it will be anywhere near as cold as last night though, thanks to the west/southwesterly breeze.

The temp has dropped away to 1.6c. The snow falling is very wet though. Some slush left on paths, still all on the grass, it isn't gonna last until Christmas day

Stephen, why haven't I had any hail?

The hail is absolutely pelting down here. Everywhere is white. If only it were snow. sad.gif

Hail is harder to melt, and with it been so marginal, it's better than snow.

Managed to scrape an ice-day here, with the temperature rising to -0.1º earlier on. Now dropping quickly at -1.3º but looks like something's heading my way to top my 7 inches up.

Lucky... My only snow remains on the grass. No where else. :)

Looks like the showers are starting to die out exept for a line along the mersey/dee estuarys and north into Cumbria , it has certainly been a great day for snow here in Wigan ,probably the best fall i've seen since i first moved up here 20yrs ago..hope it doesn't thaw too quickly

I think my luck is beggining to change, temps are barley above freezing now, and rain is not a possibility, if they snow does get intense, it MIGHT stick.

1.4c and light snow :)
