its a weird setup because they hook down from the NW then travel straight west to east! channeling it all towards sheffield and doncaster

I know, it is quite odd ... hopefully it wont loose much intensity on its way to you as surely the biggest hurdle is getting over the pennines and with so much instability about, should be fine once it's past.

Heaviest snow of the cold snap here in Sheffield - absolute whiteout conditions, 50p size flakes, and settling to boot - totally unexpected to be honest!!

On and of light to moderate snow here, not very optimistic tbh. The showers die out the moment they hit the pennines and were left with the little remains. Hopefully when the winds strengthen at 3pm the showers will make it fully over the pennines, but I've lost confidence.

Here is the latest Sat Image for Snow from EUMETSAT. The snow are shown in various shades of orange.

Notice the laying snow on the east of the UK

Snow showers to the west of Ireland

Weather front to the north of that

And the snow currently falling around Manchester and Sheffield

ENJOY!!! :)

If we don't end up with anything today then I've lost hope completely in this cold spell, on Friday the band of heavy snow wasn't forecast so hopefully i will be surprised. But going by the latest BBC forecast it will all end up south help.gif .

The latest radar does look promising though. Weve been south of the band to the north and north of the band to the south, it looks like filling in from the west now :)

yes they seem to be getting bigger and merging. what i have noticed that a certain porportion of west yorks is always in an unlucky area for snow and keeps missing the best formations of the snow same as last night, i saw the radar and it seemed there was always a small gap in between the showers that kept missing certain parts of the county. i think its my area, but i think its about to change soon.

If I was a betting man i would say you have at least a 75-80% chance for some snow from that image i put up. What interests me is i wonder if the BBC under cooked the ppn forecast for today, there is a lot of Snow to the NW.

what amazes me though is the SW wind is making it shift to here and sheffield!

Moderate snow still, laying but it won't last for long. The problem is the showers are really broken by the time they hit Leeds, you can tell they've lost most of the intensity as you can see the sun even though its cloudy.

A few light snow showers here this morning but most of the action has been a few miles to the north and north west, from about Buxton and Tideswell northward. The Kinder area looks to have had a good few cms today.
