2x Pics here from Tonights Frontal Band. The more clearer image of just how much fell will be evident by the morning, I'd estimate 2cm for my location with 4-5cm on the Peaks.

Hey Snow Joke, odd indeed, when we stopped by the Village Chippy, what was falling seemed pretty wet but it only lasted for a few minutes, by the time we drove to Tesco snow had resumed.

That's what causes the infamous Manchester rain. A wind at just the right angle blows the length of the ship canal and evaporates it before condensing it somewhere about Granada Studios and the Arndale Centre.

:rofl::rofl:

Meh...maybe I'm just easily pleased, but I'm happy with the 2 inches I've got! plus it was great seeing such heavy snow with large flakes.

Fnnarrr Fnarrrr....

A wild guess, but I wonder wether there was some kind of Foehn effect going on with the Lower Valley being sheltered and the prevailing wind being NorthWesterly, this could also explain the Winter Hill anomalie also with it recording +3'c higher temps than lower levels in Lancs.

If I can find out the location of the Whaley Bridge weather station and match it up to Woodford/Manchester METARs, there could be some intresting data for a Foehn effect taking place, if its the case.

I have to say Rob that's about the same as here and it a fingernail job, Doesn't look like we will see much more unless the showers start packing in, as the snow band looks like it just about through. It’s certainly not the 5 - 10cm predicted.

Went up to Ambleside and Grasmere on an easy family walk Deerbolts - Under Loughrigg.Fine snow covering sticking to roads and paths - Had a brew in Grasmere at approx 4pm - pelted down with decent flakes - drove back down the M6 to watch it gradually metamorphasise to sleet then horizontal rain - well dissed off - that could have been well good blizzard conditions for the Snowless county of England - Warm sector well and truly wiped out all expectations - should have stayed in Grasmere - very festive AND quiet - no sign of any Japanese tourists at all...

Same conditions as in White Peak, fine winter walking today. I've just read a report of a hike around Buckden Pike (Yorkshire Dales), if it's snow you're after, go up there, knee high to waist high...

Yes, I think an anti-ice dome will form over your area, thus stopping ice from forming, despite possible temperatures of -5C :wallbash:

Slowly but surely, but we still have cloud cover here, when it goes though it's gonna plummet!

-0.2C, Clear Skies some nasty ice has formed on the roads outside as the temps have fallen away rapidly. Same as the last few nights really, this one looks as if it's going to be just as bitter!

    Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

    The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
