I wonder where? Adrian's Wall? :):diablo:

About 2cm here, fell last night. Hasn't melted. HArdest frost of the winter/of the cold spell so far tonight, minus 5 to minus 10 forecast. This is the coldest I can remember since 1987 (not likely to surpass that in the forseeable future), and the longest cold spell since Feb 1986. More snow already that Feb 86 I think, so we are almost certainly looking to winter '84/85 for the next comparison in terms of cold, snow and longevity.

If a major snow event occurs across these islands then we can equal winter 81/82.

All very exciting really, but still can't escape the feeling that it's not as cold or snowy as it WOULD have been if these patterns had occurred in the 80s, or even the 90s?

Tomorrow will be the 17th consecutive snow lying day here, so naturally I disagree somewhat.

4-5cm this morning. Hilly parts of Oldham and the Northern parts of Greater Manchester particularly favoured by the streamer that generated lots of moisture as it came off the Irish sea.

Mean depth here is 9.5cm and the majority of that fell in a 40 minute spell this morning.

can't even get in the same league here!

mind you its/was 5cm about 45 mins ago and that is quite remarkable (I believe a favourite comment by a well known BBC broadcaster (sports) of some years ago), for this area.

I will have to look in my records but I doubt we have had that many times, here or Finningley in the past 20 years.

we shall see

Haven't seen that much here for a few years but you did get much more than me before christmas and yours obviously didn't melt after christmas, unlike here which was snow free for a couple of days, apart from patches.

Mean depth here is 14cm and still snowing although we appear to be on the very edge of it.

well I went out 30 mins ago and it was up to 8cm at the same spot on my patio decking.

I cannot remember that depth here in the 20 years I've lived here. I'll check the 1991 data from Finningley but I'm pretty sure it was not quite that depth. Just found a photo I took out of th front window after the snow and its certainly not 8cm deep!

4½ inch of level snow measured on our back garden,

fine snow still falling steadily,

measured a similar amount a few years ago but it was gone in a day,

(every day this epic cold goes on the more and more I remember stuff back from the 70`s & 80`s, a better world when kids could play out in the snow all day without having to worry about `em)

Pleased to report a depth of 5-6cm, which is a good return for a low lying edge of city location in the SW

There seem to be surprisingly few posts from here in the snowbound south this morning. Anyway, here in Reading we currently have 14cm on the garden table and 17cm on level grass, and the snow is still falling steadily.

My original guess was for somewhere like High Wycombe to get the most snow from the current fall - at present it looks like the heaviest snow so far has been further south than that (eastern Hampshire in particular) but the Thames Valley could get another pasting later today.

We have had just over 6 inches so far . Not bad for a coastal location and considering we had 3-4 hours of sleet/rain in the middle which did its best to melt some of the snow that had already fallen. It's still snowing lightly and I would expect to see a little more before the front eases away.

Been out with the ruler in the garden and to the wifes amusement the playing fields and can report a level depth of between 13 and 15 cm generally, and it has been snowing since I got back - keeping an eye on the neighbours drive which had been cleared of snow to get an idea of the amount that falls in this band of snow.

Measuring an average level depth of 38cm here this morning, with a particularly nice drift of 50cm against our fence.
