Temperatures are not going to be a problem from Wednesday onwards it seems, the difficulty will be forecsting where any precipitation develops and how intense, and this will not be known until much nearer the timescale.

In my two recent posts to the model discussion thread and cold discussion thread I have raised issue with the factor that is a relatively warm North Sea - I think this factor will be a major player i.e. it will help aid convection and therefore enhances the chances of heavy showers or more organised bands of snow moving in - the development of troughs could be a ket feature especially if eventually we see a northerly set it, however, as I said none of this will be known until the closer to the date and don't expect any of the models and certainly not the BBC to pick such features up until they are staring us in the face.

Thanks for posting the map rolleyes.gif

I'm starting to think a snowfall in Fife might be a 'wash-oot', agree? (whistling.gif)

I suppose there is still a little while before it becomes more clear unsure.gif

Too close to call at this stage I reckon.

Your relations have improved with Storm Force Lewis , would you accept a peace treaty for 24hrs

I suspect that 40-50% risk for Scotland maybe a conservative est even for eastern areas

I live near the North Norfolk Coast. Any chance it might snow here?

Difficult to predict isn't it - here in Norwich we can be too far inland for coastal snow, or too near the coast for inland snow. In that last big snow event we had earlier in the year there were some sat pictures which showed a clear line where the snow bordered Norfolk with a fair few inches and we got nowt.

Fingers crossed the easterly will bring convection in from the north sea as temps are high and Norfolk will get the lions share.

My netweather radar snow risk has now disappeared entirely for this week, from a 100% chance on Thursday a day or so ago :wallbash:

i can see the headlines u k comes to a halt councils not ready no salt etc telling people to stay indoors etc

My map is updated based on the GFS 06z, in the reliable time frame it's going to be much colder but also dryer on this run.

Although later in the period they could be a better chance of more widespread prolonged snowfall for many areas.

Wigan must have moved into Wales or N.Ireland, because we will be in the no chance category

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
